Delayed onset Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis overlapping Miller-Fisher Syndrome during SARS-CoV-2 infection
We report a case of a patient affected by delayed onset BBE overlapping MFS during a mild SARS-CoV-2 infection. To the best of our knowledge, similar cases have never been reported. (Source: Neurological Sciences)

The incidence and prevalence of crude and familial multiple sclerosis in Tehran, Iran in 2021
AbstractOur registry-based cross-sectional study covered 27,508 PwMS in Tehran with a point incidence rate and prevalence of 7.87 and 194.62 per 100,000 in 2021, respectively. We found that the incidence and prevalence of MS in Tehran are still on an upward trend which requires general attention and measures to overcome. The proportion of men with a family history of MS was significantly higher. Whilst IMSS deals with economic difficulties, it continues to collect new PwMS to reach regional-level coverage in Tehran for better MS care services. (Source: Neurological Sciences)

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in patients with chronic kidney disease
AbstractProgressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is an opportunistic central nervous system infection caused by the human polyomavirus 2, leading to demyelination from oligodendrocyte death and rapid neurologic decline. Most commonly, PML affects patients in immunocompromised states. However, rare reports of PML in an immunocompetent host exist. Here, we report two cases of PML in older individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD can ultimately lead to immune system dysfunction and place patients in a relatively immunosuppressed state. Testing for JC virus should remain a consideration for rapid, unexplained...

Incidence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-associated genetic variants: a clinic-based study
ConclusionOver half of our ALS patients carried variants of ALS-related genes, most of which were variants of uncertain significance (VUS). Family history of ALS could work as strong evidence for carrying P/LP variants regarding ALS. There was no additionally suggestive effect of indicators including early onset, progression rate, cognitive decline, or cerebellar ataxia on the recommendation of genetic testing in clinical practice. Progress in direct reprogramming of dopaminergic cell replacement therapy
AbstractParkinson ’s disease (PD) is a gradual neurodegenerative disease. While drug therapy and surgical treatments have been the primary means of addressing PD, they do not offer a cure, and the risks associated with surgical treatment are high. Recent advances in cell reprogramming have given rise to new prospec ts for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD), with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), induced dopamine neurons (iDNs), and induced neural stem cells (iNSCs) being created. These cells can potentially be used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. On the other hand, this article emphas izes the l...

Acute Symptomatic Seizures and Risk of Seizure Recurrence in Patients with Anti-NMDAR, Anti-LGI1, and Anti-GABABR Encephalitis
ConclusionsAcute symptomatic seizure is a common clinical feature observed in patients with anti-NMDAR, anti-LGI1, and anti-GABABR encephalitis, with 50% of patients presenting with seizures as an initial symptom. The prognosis of patients with acute symptomatic seizures can be improved after receiving immunotherapy. Nevertheless, a minority of patients will experience seizure recurrence; therefore, restarting immunotherapy is recommended. (Source: Neurological Sciences)

Safety and neutralization antibody levels of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in adult patients with Myasthenia Gravis: a prospective observational cohort study
DiscussionThe safety of the SARS-CoV-2 inactivated vaccine was reconfirmed in this study. No significant difference in Nabs level was found between patients with MG and HCs. Nabs levels correlated with AChR-Ab levels before vaccination and ΔAChR-Ab levels. (Source: Neurological Sciences)

Early detection of nerve involvement in presymptomatic TTR mutation carriers: exploring potential markers of disease onset
ConclusionsA close, multidisciplinary monitoring of presymptomaticTTR mutation carriers is fundamental, and diagnostic workup should include both routine and “unconventional” tests. Assessment of SF involvement is important also in non-endemic countries. (Source: Neurological Sciences)
