Effect of preservation versus resection of turbinate on olfactory function in endoscopic trans-nasal trans-sphenoidal pituitary surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis involving 235 patients examined olfaction score changes over various time frames in trans-nasal trans-sphenoidal pituitary surgeries. No significant differences were observed between turbinate preservation and resection groups at one month, three months, or six months post-surgery.PMID:38467610 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2328493 (Source: Neurological Research)

Dihydroergotamine protects against ischemic stroke by modulating microglial/macrophage polarization and inhibiting inflammation in mice
CONCLUSION: This study is the first to demonstrate the protective effect of dihydroergotamine, a first-line treatment for migraine, against ischemic nerve injury in vitro and in vivo.PMID:38468466 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2328481 (Source: Neurological Research)

Usefulness of thermography for differentiating Wallenberg's syndrome from noncentral vertigo in the acute phase
This study used thermography to measure the BST of patients with NCV and acute WS to determine the effectiveness of BST to differentiate between the conditions. Forty-eight consecutive patients diagnosed with NCV whose BST was measured using thermography during a hospital visit or admission were enrolled. The left and right BST of four sites (face, trunk, and upper and lower limbs) were measured and compared with obtained BST of nine patients with WS.RESULTS: Twenty-two patients had lateral differences in BST ≥ 0.5°C, three with ≥1.5°C, and none with ≥2.5°C. Only one patient with NCV had lateral differences in BST...

Optimal technique for canine mesenchymal stem cells labeling with novel SPIO, MIRB ™: for MRI detection of transplanted stem cells canine stroke model
CONCLUSION: This study successfully labels canine MSCs with MIRB. The optimal concentration of 10 μg Fe/ml demonstrates optimal viability, labeling efficacy, and preserved cellular morphology.PMID:38468486 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2303879 (Source: Neurological Research)

Factors associated with longer survival among older medicare patients after diagnosis of supratentorial primary brain malignancies: a retrospective cohort study
DISCUSSION: Our study suggests that metformin, beta-blockers, ACEIs, ARBs, and comorbid PD are associated with a survival benefit among geriatric Medicare patients with supratentorial PMBTs.PMID:38415699 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2323335 (Source: Neurological Research)
