Rathke's cleft cyst apoplexy in a boy treated by endoscopic endonasal surgery: case report and literature review
Neurochirurgie. 2024 Feb 13;70(2):101540. doi: 10.1016/j.neuchi.2024.101540. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRathke's cleft cyst (RCC) apoplexy is an uncommon lesion attributed to abnormal vascular supply to the fragile RCC epithelial wall. It is rare in children and very difficult to diagnose without pathologic confirmation. Here, we report an 8-year-old boy who presented with headache and visual deficit. MRI and CT showed a cystic mass in the sellar region. He underwent endoscopic endonasal surgery, and the cystic mass was resected completely via a trans-sphenoidal approach. The lesion was confirmed as RCC apoplexy by intr...

Hemangioblastoma and arteriovenous malformation in the same patient: a not random association or two isolated entities? Systematic review starting from a unique case
CONCLUSIONS: Hemangioblastomas and AVMs rarely coexist in the same patient. Our study reports the first instance of a truly "spatially separated" sporadic association between these vascular lesions. The rarity of such coexistence underscores the need for a nuanced and systematic classification to guide the management of these infrequent cases.PMID:38324942 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2024.101537 (Source: Neuro-Chirurgie)

Craniovertebral and spinal adhesive arachnoiditis: a late complication of ruptured vertebral and posterior inferior cerebellar arteries aneurysms
CONCLUSION: Adhesive arachnoiditis is a critical complication following SAH, most commonly from ruptured VA and PICA aneurysms. Early detection and individualized treatment based on the type of arachnoiditis and CSF flow impact are crucial for effective management. This study underscores the need for tailored treatment strategies and further research in this field.PMID:38324943 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2024.101535 (Source: Neuro-Chirurgie)

Genetic polymorphism of KIAA1217 is functionally associated with lumbar disc herniation in the Chinese population
CONCLUSIONS: SNP rs16924573 of KIAA1217 could be functionally associated with LDH in the Chinese population. More in vivo and vitro experiments need to be carried out to further clarify the regulatory mechanism of functional variants in KIAA1217.PMID:38311218 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2024.101538 (Source: Neuro-Chirurgie)

Surgical treatment of marginal sinus dural arteriovenous fistula: a narrative review
CONCLUSION: Treating complex DAVFms often requires surgery, as endovascular methods may not be feasible. Successful surgery hinges on a precise understanding of the fistula's venous architecture and its spatial relationships, assessed using digital substraction angiography (DSA), angio-MRI, and angio-CT. Optimal intraoperative exposure is crucial for effective surgery.PMID:38301429 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2024.101534 (Source: Neuro-Chirurgie)

Intrinsic stenosing and occlusive pathologies of the vertebral artery: A narrative review
Neurochirurgie. 2024 Jan 30;70(3):101527. doi: 10.1016/j.neuchi.2023.101527. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntrinsic pathologies of the vertebral arteries, such as atherosclerosis, dissection, fibromuscular dysplasia, radionecrosis and vasculitis, are important causes of vertebrobasilar insufficiency and cerebrovascular events. This review focuses on non-aneurysmal intrinsic stenosing and occlusive pathologies, covering their epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment options. It also provides a detailed summary of key clinical presentations and syndromes, including an in-depth examination of lateral medullary syndrome, histor...

Hemodynamic factors of spontaneous vertebral artery dissecting aneurysms assessed with numerical and deep learning algorithms: Role of blood pressure and asymmetry
CONCLUSION: In our series, asymmetry in the vertebrobasilar blood pressure distributions at and proximal to the site of the future SVADA accurately predicted its location in all patients. Deep learning algorithms can be trained to model blood flow patterns within biological systems, offering an alternative to the computationally intensive CFD. This technology has the potential to find practical applications in clinical settings.PMID:38280371 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2023.101519 (Source: Neuro-Chirurgie)
