Natural colour extraction from horticultural crops, advancements, and applications-a review
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Nov 17:1-19. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2280796. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe scope for natural colours is increasing because of the awareness of allergic, toxic, and hazardous reactions associated with synthetic dyes. Natural colours are extracted from sources that are naturally available, such as flora, fauna, and minerals. Nature sourced us multiple possibilities of colours with varied shades and hues that are subtle and harmonious when combined. Reasons like the instability of natural colours during industrial processing, seasonal availability of raw materials, fading of colour over time, cost o...

Nat Prod Res. 2023 Nov 16:1-5. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2280791. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe bioactivities of crude polysaccharides from leaves (L-Ps) and flowers (F-Ps) of Schnabelia terniflora (Maxim.) P. D. Cantino were studied, and the characteristics of purified fractions were analysed by HPLC, HP-GPC and NMR. L-Ps exhibited strong DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50 value of 251.53 ± 4.62 μg/mL) and tyrosinase inhibition (IC50 value of 163.52 ± 2.59 μg/mL). However, the maximum moisture absorption (74.67 ± 1.53%) and retention (68.00 ± 3.61%) abilities were observed in F-Ps. Two main fractions separa...

"Effect of total phenol on the control of leafminer ( < em > Phytomyza horticola < /em > ) infestation in Pea plants"
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Nov 16:1-7. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2282115. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo determine how vulnerable various pea genotypes are to leafminer infestation, a field experiment was conducted. On the basis of the presence of mines on five randomly selected leaflets from the upper, middle and lower parts of the plant, observations of larvae were made throughout the growing season. The total phenols were determined using the method described by Bray and Thorpe (1954, Analysis of phenolic compounds of interest in metabolism. Methods Biochem Anal. 52:1-27) and absorbance at 650 nm was measured using a spectro...

Structure-based virtual screening, ADMET analysis, and molecular dynamics simulation of Moroccan natural compounds as candidates for the SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors
In this study, an extensive investigation was conducted to gather a collection of phytoconstituents extracted from Moroccan plants, aiming to evaluate their ability to inhibit the proliferation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Molecular docking of the studied compounds was performed at the active sites of the main protease (6lu7) and spike (6m0j) proteins to assess their binding affinity to these target proteins. Compounds exhibiting high affinity to the proteins underwent further evaluation based on Lipinski's rule and ADME-Tox analysis to gain insights into their oral bioavailability and safety. The results revealed that the two...

Potential of insect endogenous cellulases for lignocellulosic break down deciphered using molecular docking studies
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Nov 15:1-9. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2280169. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInsects possess cellulolytic system capable of producing variegate enzymes with multifarious specificities to break down complex lignocellulosic products. Astonishingly, endoglucanases, exoglucanases and β-glycosidases act sequentially in a synergistic system to facilitate the breakdown of cellulose to utilisable energy source glucose. In silico docking studies of endo-β-1,4-glucanase from 19 different insects belonging to six different orders identified that it possesses high affinity for all the six substrates, including CM...
