Is there a clinical role for Frozen Section Analysis during partial nephrectomy? A multicenter experience over 10 years.
CONCLUSIONS: FSA during PN does not reduce the risk of positive SMs. The use of FSA has also an higher cost related to the procedure. PMID: 31833332 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica)

Prospective evaluation of urinary steroids and prostate carcinoma-induced deviation: preliminary results.
CONCLUSIONS: Three USP steroids resulted significantly altered in our PCa population. These preliminary results, combined with the simplicity and low-cost of the analysis, open to further investigation of the potential role of this restricted USP in PCa diagnosis. Role of cultural analysis in patients with indwelling ureteral stent submitted to ureteroscopy for stones.
CONCLUSIONS: About one to five patients treated with URS developed an infectious complication and E. Faecalis and E. Coli were the most frequent pathogen isolated. A positive SC is the only independent risk factor for postoperative infection: consequently, an early SC analysis could allow a prompt antibiotic therapy in all patients with positive SC even if mildly symptomatic. Analysis of clinical utility of abdominopelvic computer tomography in the follow up of Stage I Seminoma. A single center evaluation.
CONCLUSIONSː Follow-up schedules for stage I seminoma exposes patients to potential risks of radiation- induced tumors, emotional distress and represent a significant burden for the healthcare system. The current series suggests that a better risk adapted patient-tailored follow-up program is needed in order to avoid unnecessary investigations. Possible role of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors in non-invasive bladder urothelial neoplasm: multicentre study.
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term treatment with 5- ARIs might reduce the risk of bladder tumour recurrence, extension of lesions and increase the recurrence-free survival rate. A long-term, randomized prospective study could definitively assess the possible role of these drugs. PMID: 31833718 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica)

Laparoscopic simple prostatectomy: a large single center prospective cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: LSP represents a safe and effective procedure in the treatment of large adenomas. Although RCTs are needed before reaching definitive conclusions, LSP is a promising technique for patients with LUTS and large prostates. Surgical quality, cancer control and functional preservation: introducing a novel Trifecta for robot-assisted partial nephrectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: This novel reproducible Trifecta is based on standardized parameters and is an independent predictor of severe Chronic Kidney Disease development and mortality. PMID: 31833720 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica)

Thermal ablation of the small renal mass: a critical analysis of current literature.
CONCLUSION: The established modalities of cryo-, radiofrequency, and microwave ablation offer equivalent outcomes with similar complication rates; technique choice is primarily based on tumor characteristics and operator preference. Better quality evidence comparing thermal ablation with surgical nephron-sparing intervention is needed to make informed conclusions on efficacy. Open approach, extended pelvic lymph node dissection and seminal vesicle invasion are independent predictors of hospital readmission after prostate cancer surgery: a large retrospective study.
CONCLUSIONS: ORP, ePLND and seminal vesicle invasion are independent predictors of the risk of hospital readmission over the long term at a large single tertiary referral center. When surgery is chosen as a primary treatment of PCA, patients should be informed of the risk of hospital readmission and related risk factors. Assessing seminal vesicle invasion by preoperative clinical staging identifies locally advanced disease, which is associated with an increased risk of hospital readmission. Persistence and adherence to androgen deprivation therapy in men with prostate cancer: an administrative database study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our data show high adherence and persistence rates in men on ADT. The overall survival in the super-elderly is not influenced by persistence and/or adherence but rather by co-prescriptions. PMID: 31833723 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica)

Absolok ® versus Hem-o-Lok® clips for renorrhaphy during partial nephrectomy for parenchymal renal tumors.
CONCLUSIONS: Absolok® clips are a valid alternative to Hem-o-Lok® clips to secure blood vessels at the level of tumor bed and to perform a sliding-clip renorrhaphy in patients who underwent open or robot-assisted partial nephrectomy. Artificial intelligence and neural networks in urology: current clinical applications.
CONCLUSIONS: AI technologies are growing their role in health care; but, up to now, their "real-life" implementation remains limited. However, in the near future, the potential of AI-driven era could change the clinical practice in Urology, improving overall patient outcomes. Predictors of early postoperative and mid-term functional outcomes in patients treated with Endoscopic Robot Assisted Simple Enucleation (ERASE): results from a tertiary referral centre.
CONCLUSIONS: Age at surgery and higher PADUA score are significant predictors of early post- operative RF loss after ERASE for T1 renal tumors, while age at surgery, female gender, higher BMI,CCI and baseline RF significantly affect mid-term RF. Larger studies and a longer follow-up are needed to confirm these results. PMID: 31833727 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica)

Anesthetic preconditioning increases sirtuin 2 gene expression in a renal ischemia reperfusion injury model.
CONCLUSIONS: Anesthetic preconditioning is a promising strategy to prevent I-R injury associated with transplantation. Our results suggest that sirtuin 2 is involved in the protective mechanisms of some commonly used anesthetics against I-R damage.
