In Vitro study on the effectiveness of microwave sterilization in odontostomatology.
CONCLUSIONS: The use of this method, although it cannot be used with all materials, has excellent properties for the sterilization of dental medical instruments, even if with lower performance than the conventional autoclave. Bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw: systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: The treatment of BRONJ is still under debate and there are promising treatments that need randomized trials with larger numbers of patients to confirm their results. Patients receiving BPs or those who will start treatment should be encouraged to perform preventive dental treatment and maintain good oral hygiene. Maxillary dento-skeletal outcomes after orthopedic forward (class III) and backward (class II) traction in growing subjects.
CONCLUSIONS: Facemask induced greater skeletal movements than extraoral traction on Stephenson plate. PS produced a limited downward movement of the whole maxilla together with notable incisors and molars back corrections. Based on our results, it could be speculated that orthopedic mesial traction of maxillary bone may result easier than the distal movement. Psychological reactions to COVID-19 and epidemiological aspects of dental practitioners during lockdown in Italy.
CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19-related emergency condition had a highly negative impact on dental practices in Italy. Those who completed the survey reported practice closure or reduction during the lockdown, and a high level of concern about the professional future for all dental practitioners. Concerns related to professional activity were accompanied by severe anxiety levels. PMID: 32960524 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Evaluation of the epithelial cells of lower lip mucosa after debonding of fixed orthodontic appliances.
CONCLUSIONS: Orthodontic appliances increase keratinization of lip mucosa which is considered an adaptive reaction to the mechanical stimulus, but after removing of the appliances cellular activity rapidly increases. Keratinization is the main change observed at the end of orthodontic treatment. PMID: 32945633 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

The patient-doctor relationship: new insights in light of the current Ministerial recommendations regarding Phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Authors: Campisi G, Bazzano M, Mauceri R, Panzarella V, Di Fede O, Bizzoca ME, Lo Muzio L Abstract Following the publication of the Italian Ministerial recommendations relating to dentistry in Phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic (focusing on operational protocols for all dental staff), we believe that the patient/dentist relationship should increasingly take into account the heightened fears and anxious thoughts of patients. This particularly regards patients who are about to undergo dental work. Moreover, dentists should also pay close attention to recent events, which have determined the new recommendations...

Masticatory function improvement with the use of mandibular single-implant overdentures in edentulous subjects: a systematic literature review.
CONCLUSIONS: Placement of SIO improves masticatory function, as reflected mostly by masticatory performance and efficiency data, relative to CD use. Further studies comparing dental rehabilitation options, including SIOs, are needed to improve the quality of evidence in the literature. Negative social comparisons and social discomfort in dentofacial deformity: a cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with dentofacial deformity have higher levels of anxiety and discomfort. This deformity can be reduced with orthodontic-surgical treatment, which can promote improvements in social and interpersonal well-being. Familiar occurrence of facial asymmetry: a pilot study.
CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of the obtained data shows that the mother is the parent most involved in the correspondence of laterality. Further analysis would be appropriate to investigate this result. PMID: 32744442 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Standardization of a cone beam computed tomography machine in evaluating bone density: a novel approach.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results conclude that the technique was effective in calculating the Original density of tissues using grey standards of CBCT scans. PMID: 32744443 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Recognition of lysyl oxidase as a potential predictive biomarker for oral squamous cell carcinoma: an immunohistochemical study.
CONCLUSIONS: LOX has a 'pro-neoplastic' effect as it modulates the host stroma to favour increasing tumour mass and worsening prognosis. Increased expression of LOX causes increased collagen fibre cross-linkage that 'stiffens' the stromal matrix. This increases compressive stresses contributing to tissue hypoxia that elevates Rho GTPase-dependent cytoskeletal tension leading to erratic tumour cell morphogenesis that in turn confers motility to these cells resulting in metastasis. Inhibitors of LOX can potentially down-regulate LOX levels in the tumour micro-environment by controlling tissue hypoxia and curtailing the produ...

Association between teeth agenesis and Angle's classes in an Italian population.
CONCLUSIONS: We found a significantly different distribution of the condition in the different malocclusions with class II/2 presenting the higher prevalence of tooth agenesis (20.37%). The most frequent teeth affected by agenesis in the entire sample are respectively: mandibular second premolars (32.40%), followed by the maxillary lateral incisors (27.70%) and the maxillary second premolars (15.50%).
