BRCA1/2 genes mutations, ovarian reserve and female reproductive outcomes: a systematic literature review.
Authors: Merlino L, Chiné A, Galli C, Piccioni MG Abstract BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes mutations seems to impact female fertility, in addition to increasing the risk of ovarian and breast cancer. Several studies had investigated this issue but data available are still controversial. In order to clarify the role of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations in female fertility and ovarian function we carried out a systematic review of the literature with the aim to establish a possible management's strategy of these patients. A review of current literature regarding BRCA mutation (BRCAm) and fertility was conducted using the Pub...

The role of sentinel lymph node mapping in lower genital tract melanoma.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the small amount of available data, sentinel lymph node procedure is feasible and capable of identifying patients who have occult lymph node metastases. However, the potential role of the sentinel lymph node procedure as an alternative method of lymph node staging in patients with vulvar or vaginal melanoma needs further investigation. Non-invasive treatment of vulvovaginal atrophy in menopause with CO2 laser.
Authors: D'oria O, Giannini A, Prata G, Scudo M, Logoteta A, Mondo A, Perniola G, Palaia I, Cascialli G, Monti M, Muzii L, Benedetti Panici P, Di Donato V Abstract Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) may affect up to 90% of menopausal women, including vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA), burning, pain, bleeding, irritation, dyspareunia, anorgasmia, and urinary symptoms. Vaginal symptoms from lack of estrogens can have a significant impact on the sexual health and quality of life (QoL) in as many as 50% of postmenopausal women. Several therapeutic alternatives, both hormonal and non- hormonal, have been propos...

The efficacy of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GNRH) agonist before frozen embryo transfer in improving pregnancy outcome and decreasing miscarriage rate in hyperandrogenic polycystic ovary syndrome women: a randomized clinical trial.
CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that endometrial preparation using GnRH improves ongoing pregnancy and decreases miscarriage rate. It seems that reduction of androgen level in PCOS patients affects the endometrium and improves the re resulting in better pregnancy outcomes by reducing the miscarriage rate. The role of the sentinel lymph node in vulvar cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: In early-stage vulvar cancer patients with a negative sentinel node, the groin recurrence rate is low, survival is excellent, and treatment-related morbidity is minimal. We advise that sentinel node dissection, performed by a quality-controlled multidisciplinary team, should be part of the standard treatment in selected patients with early-stage vulvar cancer. Association of uterine dimensions and route of contained morcellation following laparoscopic hysterectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: Larger uterine dimensions are associated with increased total operating and morcellation times. Uterine size and volume on pre-operative imaging were not associated with route of morcellation, but there was a trend towards failed vaginal extraction when uterine dimensions exceeded 16 centimeters. Learning curve for gynecological oncologists in performing upper abdominal surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: The results reflect the evolution of surgical skills in the upper abdomen through the increase in the percentage of patients undergoing primary surgery, with the surgical team undertaking more complex procedures, less involvement of other specialties and simultaneously achieving higher rates of complete cytoreduction. Role of single-site and mini-laparoscopy in gynecologic surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: Minimally invasive surgery is the present and future in gynecological surgery.
