Content of some redox homeostasis parameters in blood of patients with liver cirrhosis, depending on its severity according to the criteria of C. H. Child-R. N. Pugh and their connection with endothelial dysfunction development.
CONCLUSIONS: The cirrhotic patients have the significant abnormalities in the redox homeostasis that becomes the background of the endothelial dysfunction - common trigger mechanism for the syntropic comorbid diseases and early pathophysiologic symptom of the unfavorable prognosis for such patients. Factors influencing inpatient colonoscopy bowel preparation quality.
CONCLUSIONS: At our institution, patients who were older or had significant co-morbid conditions (CAD, CHF, COPD, motility disorders, or cirrhosis) were more likely to have inadequate inpatient bowel preparation. Bowel preparation type did not affect the duration, quality of visualization, or successful cecal intubation. Fecal gluten immunogenic peptides as indicators of dietary compliance in celiac patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Assay of fecal GIPs identified more patients who were not complying with the diet than the Biagi questionnaire or evaluation of symptoms. The anti-tTG and GIP results agreed perfectly; however, since anti-tTG antibodies remain high for longer and are not a completely reliable marker of GFD intake, detection of fecal GIPs offers a direct, objective, quantitative assessment of exposure, even occasional, to gluten and could be used to check dietary compliance. P38 expression in colorectal adenomas: relationships to cell proliferation, stem phenotype and akt pathway proteins.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest an interference of P38 with initial steps of colorectal adenomagenesis. The correlation to mTOR suggests a biological crosstalk between the MAPK- and AKT-signaling-pathways in colorectal adenomagenesis at P38 level. Effects of Hoodia Parviflora on satiety, abdominal obesity and weight in a group of overweight subjects: a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trial.
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows for the first time the simultaneous effect of H. Parviflora on weight loss, decreasing satiety, and improving fat mass, in particular VAT. PMID: 32218424 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Gastroenterologica e Dietologica)

Proctitis: a glance beyond inflammatory bowel diseases.
Authors: Rizza S, Mistrangelo M, Ribaldone DG, Morino M, Astegiano M, Saracco GM, Pellicano R Abstract Proctitis is an inflammation involving the anus and the distal part of the rectum, frequently diagnosed in the context of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Nevertheless, when the standard therapy for IBD is ineffective, it becomes necessary for the clinician to review alternative etiologies, beginning from the broad chapter of infectious causes up to rare causes such as radiation, ischemia, diversion and traumatisms. While it is possible to find infectious proctitides caused by pathogens generally induci...

Predictors of risk of fracture in inflammatory bowel diseases: a prospective study using FRAX score.
CONCLUSIONS: The correlation between increase of inflammatory markers and increased risk of osteoporotic fractures and the lack of difference between Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis suggest a central role of inflammation over malabsorption in this population. Rheumatologic manifestations of hepatitis C in the era of direct-acting antiviral agents.
Authors: Priora M, Realmuto C, Parisi S, Ditto MC, Borrelli R, Peroni CL, Laganà A, Fusaro E Abstract Beyond the classic hepatic complications, hepatitis C (HCV) infection is considered as a systemic disease, since extrahepatic manifestations become clinically evident in 40 to 70% of the patients and it can frequently include rheumatic ones. Furthermore, HCV can promote the production of several autoantibodies, thus complicating the differential diagnosis between primitive and HCV- related rheumatic disorders. The recent development of direct-acting antivirals (DAA) against HCV has revolutionized the fiel...

The different daily distribution of proteins does not influence the variations in body composition in a sample of subjects undergoing a low-calorie mediterranean-type diet.
CONCLUSIONS: In overweight and obese subjects undergoing a Mediterranean-type low-calorie diet, a different distribution of daily protein intake between meals and snacks does not result in significant differences in terms of FM loss and LBM maintenance. This is one of the first studies showing that nutritional dietary plans with different daily protein distribution show no particular differences in fat loss and lean mass maintenance. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue sampling of pancreatic lesions.
Authors: Facciorusso A Abstract Important advancements in endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue sampling techniques and development of new needle designs have improved the diagnostic yield of pancreatic lesions. This innovation in endoscopic ultrasound has also opened the door for early diagnosis and precision therapy in the management of cancer patients. Endoscopic ultrasound fine needle biopsy is an invaluable tool and newer biopsy designs will probably play a pivotal role in the management of pancreatic lesions in the next future. Aim of the current review is to provide an overview on the available techni...
