Surgical treatment for severe liver injuries: a single-center experience.
CONCLUSIONS: Severe liver trauma, often involving complex liver resections, should be managed in a referral HPB center, thus obtaining the best results in terms of morbidity and mortality. PMID: 32009332 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Chirurgica)

Quality of recovery after major emergency abdominal surgery. A prospective observational cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Recovery measured by QoR-15 is substantially affected after major emergency abdominal surgery even after 14- and 30 days postoperatively. The patients were poor or only moderately recovered within the first seven postoperative days and only 62% of the patients were fully recovered at postoperative day 30. Hem-o-Lok clip migration into the duodenum after laparoscopic digestive surgery: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: The application of Hem-o-Lok clip during laparoscopic surgery is safe and effective. Postoperative Hem-o-Lok migration into the duodenum is rare. The treatment could be conservative in the majority of cases. PMID: 31958943 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Chirurgica)

Reduction of postoperative lymphorrhoea in patients undergoing radical lymphadenectomy for stage III melanoma: prospective study using collagen-fibrin patches.
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study confirm and support the starting thesis: TachoSil is an effective tissue sealant able to reduce lymphorrhoea and drainage removal times following a radical lymphadenectomy, independently from the BMI. The management of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas.
Authors: Pollini T, Andrianello S, Caravati A, Perri G, Malleo G, Paiella S, Marchegiani G, Salvia R Abstract Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) of the pancreas are one of the most common preneoplastic entities among pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCN). Their incidence is increasing due to an extensive use of cross-sectional imaging, but management still remains controversial. Among IPMNs, the main duct (MD-IPMN) and mixed (MT-IPMN) types harbor a high risk of malignant degeneration requiring resection in most of cases. The branch duct type (BD-IPMN), on the other side, can be safely surveilled ...

Clinical and anatomical variables associated in the literature to limb graft occlusion after endovascular aneurysm repair compared to the experience of a tertiary referral center.
CONCLUSIONS: The strongest predictive factors of LGO issued from our review were: extension in the external iliac artery, or small diameter; tortuous, angled, and calcific iliac axis; excessive oversizing of the limb graft, or kinking; use of old generation devices; EVAR performed outside the instructions for use. Limb graft oversizing >15%, or kinking, and aortic bifurcation <20 mm appear to be independent predictive factors of LGO. Possible role of low magnesium levels in the onset of postoperative hypoparathyroidism following thyroidectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: The only factor among the ones we analysed in this retrospective study that would appear to be linked to the onset of clinically relevant hypocalcaemia is low magnesium levels in the postoperative period. A prospective randomized study with a group of patients undergoing magnesium replacement in the postoperative period can clarify the possible role of magnesium repletion on hypocalcaemia. Abdominoplasty after bariatric surgery: comparison of three different techniques.
CONCLUSIONS: Both synthetic glue and energy device improve outcomes of postbariatric abdominoplasties. The glue reduces rates of bleeding and seroma. The energy deviceimproves intraoperative hemostasis and shortens operative time. PMID: 31580044 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Chirurgica)
