Supplemental low-dose esketamine to propofol versus propofol alone on perioperative characteristics in children undergoing surgery: a prospective randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Esketofol reduces postoperative pain and the need for rescue opioids, but it extends recovery time in the PACU and increases BIS without affecting other outcomes.PMID:37987990 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.17550-X (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)

Postoperative cognitive worsening in seniors with an age above life expectancy: a prospective longitudinal study
CONCLUSIONS: Elderly patients had a significantly worse 6CIT value after planned surgery, which may derive in part from age and in part from hospitalization. It is difficult to determine if general anesthesia alone has no harmful effects on cognitive performance in patients at discharge and one year later. Further data are necessary.PMID:37987991 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.17572-9 (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)

Efficacy and safety of pericapsular nerve group block in total hip arthroplasty: a meta-analysis and systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the latest findings, PENG has been shown to effectively decrease pain scores within six and 24 hours following total hip arthroplasty. However, its effectiveness in pain control diminishes after 48 hours. Additionally, PENG has demonstrated the ability to reduce opioid consumption without an accompanying increase in adverse drug events.PMID:37987992 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.17618-8 (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)

The efficacy of Perfusion Index for identifying failed nerve block in patients receiving upper extremity surgery: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis confirmed that the PI values and ratios are promising objective predictors of nerve block failure. The simplicity of these techniques supports their feasibility for routine clinical practice. Further studies focusing on different patient populations, such as pregnant women or the elderly, are needed to validate and expand upon our findings.PMID:37987993 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.17655-3 (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)
