Staging of colorectal cancer using lipid biomarkers and machine learning
ConclusionOur findings demonstrate that correlating multiple disease related features with lipid changes could improve CRC prognosis. The identified signatures could be used as reference biomarkers to predict CRC prognosis and classify stages, and monitor therapeutic intervention. (Source: Metabolomics)

Impact of hypoxia and reoxygenation on the extra/intracellular metabolome and on transporter expression in a human kidney proximal tubular cell line
ConclusionThis study provides insight into the transcriptomic response of the tubular transporters to hypoxia/reoxygenation. No correlation was found between the expression of transporters and the metabolic variations observed. Given the complexity of studying the global tubular transport systems, we propose that further studies focus on targeted transporters. (Source: Metabolomics)

Identifying possible biomarkers of lower urinary tract symptoms using metabolomics and partial least square regression
ConclusionWhen using the robust PLS-regression method, none of the metabolites in our analysis had a significant association with lower urinary tract symptoms. This highlights the importance of using appropriate statistical methods when exploring new biomarkers in urology. (Source: Metabolomics)

Multi-tissue transcriptomic and serum metabolomic assessment reveals systemic implications of acute ozone-induced stress response in male Wistar Kyoto rats
AbstractAir pollutant exposures have been linked to systemic disease; however, the underlying mechanisms between responses of the target tissue and systemic effects are poorly understood. A prototypic inducer of stress, ozone causes respiratory and systemic multiorgan effects through activation of a neuroendocrine stress response. The goal of this study was to assess transcriptomic signatures of multiple tissues and serum metabolomics to understand how neuroendocrine and adrenal-derived stress hormones contribute to multiorgan health outcomes. Male Wistar Kyoto rats (12 –13 weeks old) were exposed to filtered air or 0.8 ...

Characterization of chemoresistant human non-small cell lung cancer cells by metabolic and lipidomic profiling
ConclusionsThis study reveals characteristic feature differences between drug-resistance NSCLC cells and their parental cells. We suggest potential therapeutic targets in chemoresistant NSCLC. Our results provide new insight into metabolic and lipidomic alterations in chemoresistant NSCLC. This could be used as fundamental information to develop therapeutic strategies for the treatment of chemoresistant NSCLC patients. (Source: Metabolomics)

Sterol and lipid metabolism in bees
AbstractBackgroundBees provide essential pollination services for many food crops and are critical in supporting wild plant diversity. However, the dietary landscape of pollen food sources for social and solitary bees has changed because of agricultural intensification and habitat loss. For this reason, understanding the basic nutrient metabolism and meeting the nutritional needs of bees is becoming an urgent requirement for agriculture and conservation. We know that pollen is the principal source of dietary fat and sterols for pollinators, but a precise understanding of what the essential nutrients are and how much is nee...
