Sodium Hypochlorite and Chlorhexidine Downregulate MMP Expression on Radicular Dentin
Conclusion: Our results showed that most common irrigants affect MMP expression on radicular dentin. Treatment with NaOCl and chlorhexidine resulted in lower expression of MMPs, while EDTA increased their expression in root canal dentin. (Source: Medical Principles and Practice)

New Parameter of the Second Half of the P-Wave, P-Wave Duration, and Atrial Conduction Times Predict Atrial Fibrillation during Electrophysiological Studies
Conclusions: Left atrial CT were directly and significantly correlated with PMax and almost all the parameters of the second half of the P-wave. CT, PMax, and Pp-eMax (new parameter) were good predictors of AF-EPS, although CT did more robustly. (Source: Medical Principles and Practice)

Sarcopenic Obesity in Chronic Kidney Disease: Challenges in Diagnosis using Different Diagnostic Criteria
Obesity and muscle impairment (low muscle mass or strength) are present in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and associated to worse prognosis. However, the various existing definitions for these conditions make the diagnosis variable. The aim of the study was to evaluate the agreement between diagnostic criteria for sarcopenic obesity and its components in CKD. Two hundred and sixty seven patients with CKD were included in the study. We assessed body composition by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and muscle function by handgrip strength (HGS); adiposity by BMI, waist circumference (WC), fat mass index (FMI), and percent...

Troponin elevation in sickle cell disease
Abstract: Objective: Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is associated with cardiovascular abnormalities. Troponin is not typically measured in this population and significance of having abnormal troponin is unknown. We wanted to evaluate use of troponin and factors that predispose troponin elevation in patient s admitted with Sickle Cell Pain Crisis (SCPC). Methods: We reviewed data of consecutive patients admitted to a tertiary care hospital between 2006-2011 with a diagnosis of SCPC. Subjects with Elevated Troponin (ET) group (troponin I> 0.04 ng/ml) were compared with those with Normal Troponin (NT group) for demo...

Evaluation of the nature and etiologies of risk factors for diaphyseal atypical femoral fractures
Objectives: Differences in the mechanisms of subtrochanteric and diaphyseal atypical femoral fractures (AFFs) have been speculated in studies that have analyzed differences in the patients ’ backgrounds. However, the etiologies of each type of AFF have not been investigated in detail. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the nature and etiologies of the risk factors for diaphyseal AFFs. Materials and Methods: Eighty consecutive Japanese patients with 91 diaphyseal AFFs (the AF F group) and 110 age-matched female patients with osteoporosis (the non-AFF control group) were included. Their clinical data were compared ...
