Risk and Protective Factors for Parental Involvement and Early Indicators of School Achievement in Alaska
Conclusions for PracticeFindings suggest that reducing caregiver stress and offering social support could not only benefit caregivers but learning outcomes of their children as well. For child learning outcomes, simultaneously reducing stress and offering social support for caregivers, rather than just one of them alone, is suggested. These results are important for children, particularly for those raised by caregivers experiencing psychological distress or drinking issues. (Source: Maternal and Child Health Journal)

Abortion Legal Reform and Neonatal Mortality in Mozambique
DiscussionGiven the delay in implementation, our analyses suggest that abortion reform in Mozambique was associated with an initial increase in neonatal mortality particularly among socially disadvantaged women. This may be due to the delay in effective implementation, including the dissemination of clear guidelines and expansion of safe abortion services. Longer-term follow-up is needed to assess the impact of the reform after 2018, when services were expanded. Abortion legal reform without adequate implementation and enforcement is unlikely to be sufficient to improve abortion access and health outcomes. (Source: Materna...

Characteristics and Outcomes of Women and Infants Who Received Prenatal Care While Incarcerated in Arkansas State Prison System, 2014 –2019
ConclusionsIncarcerated pregnant women and their infants are a marginalized population in great need of health care advocacy. To optimize maternal-infant outcomes, carceral agencies must recognize the health needs of incarcerated pregnant women and provide appropriate prenatal care. Expansion of carceral perinatal care to include screening for SUD and psychiatric symptoms (e.g., PTSD) and referral to appropriate care is highly encouraged. Policies related to NICU admission for non-medical reasons should be further examined. (Source: Maternal and Child Health Journal)

Using Natural Language Processing to Identify Stigmatizing Language in Labor and Birth Clinical Notes
Conclusion We identified well-performing machine learning methods to automatically detect stigmatizing language in clinical notes. To our knowledge, this is the first study to use NLP performance metrics to evaluate the performance of machine learning methods in discerning stigmatizing language. Future studies should delve deeper into refining and evaluating NLP methods, incorporating the latest algorithms rooted in deep learning. (Source: Maternal and Child Health Journal)
