Systemic lupus erythematosus with chronic persistent intracranial hypertension: A case report
CONCLUSION: Systemic lupus erythematosus with intracranial hypertension is a rare manifestation of SLE, which is not completely parallel to SLE activity. Headache and papilledema were the most common presenting symptoms. Different from previous reported cases, our patient had poor response to treatments, showing chronic and persistent characteristics.PMID:38285490 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241230734 (Source: Lupus)

Correlation between the changes of brain amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation and cognitive impairment in patients with neuropsychiatric lupus
CONCLUSION: Patients with NPSLE show different brain activity changes in different brain regions, and the abnormal brain regions are correlated with certain lupus antibodies, inflammatory factors, and cognitive assessment, thereby suggesting that the correlation between the three could provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of NPSLE.PMID:38269543 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241228783 (Source: Lupus)

Analysis of clinical, immunological characteristics, damage, and survival in 300 Turkish systemic lupus erythematosus patients
CONCLUSION: Ethnicity and geography influence the clinical diversity of SLE. Recognizing these disparities is crucial for tailoring patient care. Future inception cohort studies in Turkish SLE patients are necessary to address the limitations of retrospective research.PMID:38258530 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241228174 (Source: Lupus)

The Type 1 & amp; 2 systemic lupus erythematosus model: Perspectives of people living with systemic lupus erythematosus
CONCLUSION: We demonstrated content and face validity of the Type 1 & 2 SLE model with people living with SLE. Participants in our study largely understood the model and felt it accurately reflected their experience living with SLE. Type 2 SLE symptoms are very common in individuals with SLE and impact patients' quality of life. Using the model to address Type 2 SLE symptoms allows the rheumatologist to incorporate the patient's perspective and provide patient-centered care.PMID:38238905 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241228343 (Source: Lupus)

A 12-month follow-up study of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus after immunization against SARS-CoV-2
CONCLUSIONS: 33 of 100 SLE patients immunized with BNT162b2 vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, presented SLE flares (47 episodes in total); 5 of these patients required in-hospital management and all fully recovered; 26 patients had SARS-CoV-2 infection; three required hospitalization, one died.PMID:38237938 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241227811 (Source: Lupus)

Comparison of efficacy of continuous mycophenolate mofetil with sequential cyclophosphamide and tacrolimus as maintenance therapy for lupus nephritis
CONCLUSION: MMF has potential as an effective treatment for renal manifestations in Japanese patients throughout induction and maintenance therapies for LN, as an alternative to conventional IVCY-TAC therapy, and as a glucocorticoid-sparing agent.PMID:38232223 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241228177 (Source: Lupus)

Rhupus syndrome in children: A multi-center retrospective cohort study and literature review
CONCLUSION: Our study is the largest cohort in the literature evaluating pediatric rhupus cases. Most of the pediatric patients had polyarticular, asymmetric, and erosive arthritis, as well as organ involvements associated with SLE, including the skin, hematological system, and kidney.PMID:38226485 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231226353 (Source: Lupus)

The potential causal association between systemic lupus erythematosus and endocrine and metabolic disorders in the East Asian population: A bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: We confirmed that SLE has a causal effect on GD as well as OP, but no evidence exists to substantiate a causal link between SLE and T2DM. Our study offers valuable contributions for uncovering the etiology of SLE and endocrine and metabolic disorders and furthering disease risk research while providing potential targets for disease monitoring and therapeutic intervention.PMID:38214324 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241227276 (Source: Lupus)

Lupus nephritis and socioeconomic status: Findings from the Southern California lupus registry
CONCLUSION: Low SES, when defined by insurance, is associated with greater adverse outcomes in SLE. This is the first regional study that compares differences in treatment response in LN patients with low SES as well as association of SES with long-term outcomes in SLE and LN in southern California.PMID:38204201 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241227035 (Source: Lupus)

The effect of respiratory muscle training on respiratory muscle strength, diaphragm thickness/mobility, and exercise capacity in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and associated shrinking lung syndrome
The objective of the current case series was to investigate the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on diaphragm thickness/mobility, respiratory muscle strength, peripheral muscle thickness/strength, and functional exercise capacity in patients with SLE and associated SLS. Three patients with SLE were included in the case series. Respiratory muscle strength, peripheral muscle strength, peripheral muscle thickness, diaphragm muscle thickness, diaphragm muscle mobility, functional exercise capacity, and pulmonary function test were assessed. A significant improvement has been determined in respiratory muscle strengt...

Systemic lupus erythematosus is associated with increased risk of mortality and acute kidney injury in patients with COVID-19 hospitalization: Insights from a National Inpatient Sample analysis
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 patients with SLE are at an increased mortality risk, especially in the younger age group, and a higher incidence of acute kidney injury requiring dialysis. The elevated risk of adverse outcomes underscores the vulnerability of SLE patients to COVID-19. These findings emphasize the importance of special precautions and patient education for individuals with SLE to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19.PMID:38194931 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241227027 (Source: Lupus)
