Phenotype and disease course differences in monogenic and sporadic childhood lupus
CONCLUSION: Patients with monogenic lupus are likely to have an early disease onset and a strong family history of lupus, as well as a guarded prognosis, which is likely due to the disease's severity and frequent infections. These differences may be related to the high consanguinity rate and underlying genetic variants.PMID:37878993 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231211065 (Source: Lupus)

Abnormal presentation of pregnancy and postpartum initial-onset systemic lupus erythematosus combined with diffuse alveolar hemorrhage: A case report
Lupus. 2023 Oct 20:9612033231210060. doi: 10.1177/09612033231210060. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSystemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that most commonly occurs in women of childbearing age. However, cases of SLE with abnormal pregnancy as the initial manifestation, involving the development of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH), have rarely been reported. Herein, we report the case of a young woman who underwent a cesarean section for fetal distress and growth restriction at 35 + 1 weeks' gestation. Following discharge, she experienced progressive worsening of anemia and chest tightness, which was l...

Disease-modifying effect and long-term safety of belimumab in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: A single-center retrospective study
CONCLUSION: Most patients experienced lupus low disease activity state, reduced flare rate and glucocorticoid demand, and a stable SDI trend after belimumab treatment initiation. Given its efficacy and retention rate, belimumab treatment may serve as a fundamental strategy in disease modification.PMID:37858981 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231208845 (Source: Lupus)

Treatment of active systemic lupus erythematosus with baricitinib: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Meta-analysis reveals that baricitinib 4 mg is beneficial for treating active SLE in terms of a reduction of ≥ 4 points from baseline in SLEDAI-2K score and SLEDAI-2K remission of arthritis or rash. However, the higher frequency of SAEs and serious infections was observed in the group receiving baricitinib 4 mg.PMID:37853751 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231208842 (Source: Lupus)

The correlation between pregnancy, disease activity and adverse pregnancy outcomes in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
CONCLUSION: Postpartum six-month period appears to have the highest risk for disease flares during SLE pregnancies. Disease activity during pregnancy increases the risk of APO. In order to achieve a positive pregnancy outcome and lower maternal morbidity, regular follow-up of patients is necessary.PMID:37855206 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231208844 (Source: Lupus)

Downregulation of circETS1 disrupts Th17/Treg homeostasis by inhibiting < em > FOXP3 < /em > transcription: A new potential biomarker in systemic lupus erythematosus
In this study, we measured the expression levels of circETS1 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and CD4+ T cells of patients with SLE by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The impact of circETS1 expression on the Th17/Treg balance and underlying mechanism were evaluated using double-luciferase reporter, gain-/loss-of-function, and rescue assays. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was conducted to assess the diagnostic value of circETS1. Both circETS1 and FOXP3 expression were downregulated in the PBMCs and CD4+ T cells of patients with SLE (n = 28) compared with those in the cells of hea...

CONCLUSION: PAPS and LI have a distinct clinical and laboratory spectra from those without LI and it is characterized by an increased frequency of protein C deficiency, and a lower frequency of venous events, deep venous thrombosis and IgM anticardiolipin.PMID:37852301 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231208347 (Source: Lupus)

Identify the influences of systemic lupus erythematosus on acquired ADAMTS13-deficient thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura using comprehensive bioinformatics analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Three core genes were linked to the molecular pathogenesis of SLE and aTTP, and two drugs may be viable treatments for both diseases.PMID:37846867 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231209109 (Source: Lupus)
