Unanticipated Increases in Hepatic Steatosis among HIV Patients Receiving MR Antagonist Eplerenone for NAFLD
ConclusionsThe unexpected observation of increased hepatic steatosis with administration of eplerenone led to early termination of the investigation. While limited due to the small number of participants and the open‐label design, the present study provides data to suggest that mineralocorticoid receptor antagonism with eplerenone may not be an effective approach to treat hepatic steatosis in HIV or the general population. Additional research is needed to determine the pathophysiologic mechanism behind these unanticipated observations. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Validation of the Baveno VI and the expanded Baveno VI criteria to identify patients who could avoid screening endoscopy
ConclusionsIn this Asian cohort study, the Baveno VI criteria was able to identify who could safely avoid screening endoscopy. The expanded Baveno VI criteria could spare more endoscopies but also could increase the odds of missing a HRV.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Hepatitis C virus direct ‐acting antivirals therapy impacts on extracellular vesicles microRNAs content and on their immunomodulating properties
ConclusionsEnrichment of immunomodulatory microRNAs in exosomes of HCV patients was correlated with their inhibitory activity on innate immune cells function. Direct‐acting antivirals (DAA) treatment was observed to revert both microRNA content and functional profiles of systemic exosomes towards those of healthy donors. Exosome‐associated microRNAs may provide valuable biomarkers to monitor immune response recovery. (Source: Liver International)
