Progressive resistance training prevents loss of muscle mass and strength in bile duct ‐ligated rats
ConclusionResistance training in rats with chronic liver disease beneficially effects muscle mass and strength. The effects were followed by non ‐significant reduction in blood ammonia; however, a tendency was observed. (Source: Liver International)

Effect of proton pump inhibitors on the risk and prognosis of infections in patients with cirrhosis and ascites
ConclusionsApproximately half of patients with cirrhosis and ascites use PPI. This use increases their risk of bacterial infections, but does not affect their prognosis after an infection occurs. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Liver International)

Association of HLA ‐DPA1 and HLA‐DPB1 polymorphisms with spontaneous HBsAg seroclearance in Caucasians
ConclusionThis is the first study demonstrating an association of the rs3077 ‐T allele with spontaneous HBsAg seroclearance in Caucasians. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role ofHLA ‐DP variants in disease pathogenesis and their potential role for individualized disease management. This article is protected by copyright. Hepatitis B and Renal Function: A Matched Study Comparing Non ‐Hepatitis B, Untreated, Treated and Cirrhotic Hepatitis Patients
ConclusionAfter PSM and GLM, the significant predictors for worsening renal function were age, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus but not CHB, ETV, or cirrhosis. However, given small sample size, data regarding the use of ETV in patients with cirrhosis should be interpreted with caution and requires additional investigation. This article is protected by copyright. High Seroprevalence of anti ‐Hepatitis E antibodies in Austrian patients with Autoimmune Hepatitis
ConclusionsNo chronic HEV infection was observed in our cohort of AIH patients. Anti ‐HEV‐IgG‐positive patients were older and the seroprevalence was nearly twice as high as reported previously in healthy Austrian individuals, suggesting that HEV‐infection might act as trigger for the development of autoimmune hepatitis. This article is protected by copyright. Metabolic Factors Affecting Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Steatohepatitis
ConclusionsWe report the largest single ‐center study evaluating clinical, histopathological, and outcome measures of patients undergoing LT for steatohepatitis. Older patients, diabetics, and Hispanics may warrant more frequent cancer screening due to increased risk of HCC.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Clinical outcomes and management of patients with chronic hepatitis B and liver stiffness measurement in the grey zone
ConclusionsCHB patients with initial LSM in the grey zone rarely proceed to a clarifying liver biopsy which would reveal advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis in one ‐third of patients. Both liver biopsy and repeat LSM in grey zone patients have clinical utility in prompting changes in management and providing prognostic information. This article is protected by copyright. Liver decompensation in HIV/Hepatitis B coinfection in the cART era does not seem increased compared to hepatitis B mono ‐infection
ConclusionsHIV/HBV coinfected patients no longer seem to be at increased risk for progression to ESLD compared to HBV mono ‐infected patients, likely due to widespread use of highly effective cART with dual HBV and HIV activity. This article is protected by copyright.
