Construction of stomach adenocarcinoma prognostic signature based on anoikis-related lncRNAs and clinical significance
This study was designed to identify prognostic risk factors in anoikis-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) for STAD. First, with STAD expression datasets and anoikis-related gene sets downloaded from public databases, anoikis-related prognostic lncRNA signatures (AC091057.1, ADAMTS9.AS1, AC090825.1, AC084880.3, EMX2OS, HHIP.AS1, AC016583.2, EDIL3.DT, DIRC1, LINC01614, and AC103702.2) were screened by Cox regression to establish a prognostic risk model. Kaplan-Meier and receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the survival status of patients and verify predictive accuracy of the model. Besides, risk...

Knowledge and attitudes towards mpox and effect of intervention among College of Applied Medical Sciences students
Conclusion: After the program's implementation, there was an obvious improvement in the medical students' total knowledge and attitude scores concerning the mpox epidemic. It is necessary to initiate well-organized training initiatives for all other medical faculties, paramedics, and applied health institutions in Saudi Arabia.PMID:37300843 | PMC:PMC10259327 | DOI:10.1080/19932820.2023.2222448 (Source: Libyan Journal of Medicine)

Adjunctive systemic antibiotic effect on periodontal state, salivary enzyme activity, and glycemia imbalance in type-2 diabetics after non-surgical periodontal management
CONCLUSION: The increase in ALP, AST, and ALT activities reflects the impact of uncontrolled T2D on periodontal tissue alteration. The ALP activity increase was associated with the severity of periodontal status in diabetic patients. In comparison to non-surgical treatment alone, the adjunct use of systemic antibiotics improves periodontal state, enzyme activity, and glycemic control.PMID:37300844 | PMC:PMC10259292 | DOI:10.1080/19932820.2023.2222449 (Source: Libyan Journal of Medicine)

Association between cardio-ankle vascular index and cardiometabolic risk factors in HIV patients in Ghana
Libyan J Med. 2023 Dec;18(1):2215636. doi: 10.1080/19932820.2023.2215636.ABSTRACTHuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with increased cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) even in patients with viral suppression by combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). Arterial stiffness is an independent predictor of CVDs in diseased individuals and the general population. Cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is an index of arterial stiffness that has been shown to predict target organ damage. CAVI is less studied in HIV patients. We compared the levels of arterial stiffness using CAVI and associated factors among cART-tr...
