Isolation and characterization of multidrug ‐resistant Leclercia species from animal clinical case
We report here the case from bovine suffering from respiratory distress; the sample yielded Leclercia species as polymicrobial culture. The isolate was found to be multidrug resistant and evidenced for uncertain clinical relevance and could act as hidden source of public health hazard. The limited literature available on this organism is reviewed, and the potential implications of findings are discussed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of isolation and characterization of multidrug‐resistant Leclercia species from animal clinical case from India. Interactive effects between total SO2, ethanol and storage temperature against Brettanomyces bruxellensis
This report is the first to identify the existence of interactions between these parameters that affect growth and/or metabolism of the yeast (i.e., synthesis of 4‐ethylphenol, 4‐ethylguaiacol and volatile acidity). Based on current and past findings, recommendations are presented related to the use of potential antimicrobial synergies between SO2, ethanol concentration and storage temperatures. Significance and Impact of the Study: The potential for utilizing SO2 along with the ethanol and storage temperature was studied to inhibit the spoilage yeast, Brettanomyces bruxellensis, during cellar ageing of red wines. Thi...

Occurrence of Enteropathogenic Bacteria in Birds of Prey in Italy
This study was performed with the aim to evaluate the occurrence of enteropathogenic bacteria (i.e. Campylobacter spp. Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp.) in birds of prey carcasses in Southern Italy. The results of the present study showed a prevalence of 33.1% (49/148) for Campylobacter spp. where all positive isolates (49/49) were identified as C. jejuni, and among these positive 12/49 were also identified as C. coli. Thus, 12/49 birds of prey showed mixed infections for both Campylobacter species. Differences in Campylobacter spp. prevalence between diurnal and nocturnal birds were statistically significant (P=0.016). E...

Mechanism of increased microbial autofluorescence by heat treatment
This study was conducted to determine how heating enhances the autofluorescence of bacteria and fungi and to evaluate whether the phenomenon could be exploited to develop a new TDC method. Bacterial autofluorescence was augmented by heating cells at 200°C. ELISA results indicated that levels of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) increased in heated microbes. Catechin, an inhibitor of the Maillard reaction, disrupted the intensification of autofluorescence. These results suggest that the enhanced autofluorescence is associated with the formation of AGEs and that the reaction could be utilized as alternative probe in TD...
