Comparison of ıntracanal ozone and low-level laser therapy on postoperative pain in vital teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis:placebo-controlled randomize trial
AbstractThe aim of this study was to compare the effect of ozone and low-level-laser therapy (LLLT) on postoperative pain after root canal treatment in symptomatic apical periodontitis on vital teeth. Eighty patients were divided into four groups using a web program as follows: LLLT placebo (mock laser therapy), LLLT, Ozone placebo (mock ozonated water irrigation), and Ozone. Postoperative pain levels for 7 days after treatment and percussion pain levels at the 7th day were recorded on the visual analog scale. A regression analysis, Cochran ’s Q test, Chi-square test, Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed to analyze the da...

Effect of femtosecond laser-assisted arcuate keratotomy versus toric intraocular lens implantation on correction of astigmatism in cataract surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsFSAK combined with non-toric IOL implantation was found to be less effective than TIOL implantation in correcting preoperative corneal astigmatism in cataract patients. The difference in the effectiveness of astigmatism correction between the two surgical methods seems to diminish, as the degree of preoperative corneal astigmatism decreases. Comparative evaluation of effect of chlorhexidine application on dentin bond strength with two different adhesives after ER, CR: YSGG phototherapy: an in vitro study
This study aimed to assess the efficacy of phototherapy with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser on the bond strength of dentin using two different adhesive systems after chlorhexidine (CHX) application. Twenty-four non-carious human molar teeth were separated into three main groups: negative control Group A (Group A), CHX and phototherapy with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser (Group PC), and CHX with conventional diamond bur (no phototherapy) (Group C). These groups were divided into two subgroups based on adhesives: Clearfil Universal Quick Bond and Clearfil SE Bond. To evaluate the microtensile bond strength, the occlusal enamel surfaces of the t...

Is CO2 laser microsurgery better than radiotherapy in early glottic cancer: a meta-analysis
AbstractThe choice between radiotherapy (RT) and CO2 laser surgery (CO2-LS) for early glottic cancer remains controversial. We systematically examined electronic databases in order to identify prospective trials comparing patients who had undergone CO2-LS or RT to treat early glottic cancer. Eleven studies involving 1053 patients were included. In the selected literature, the parameter setting of CO2 laser equipment can be summarized as wavelength 10.6  µm, superpulsed mode, continuous setting, power tailored on target structures (1–3 W for subtle resections and 4–15 W for cutting a larger tumor), and approximately 2...

Towards phase-sensitive optical coherence tomography in smart laser osteotomy: temperature feedback
This study investigated the potential of optical coherence tomography to provide feedback by relating the temperature rise with the photo-thermal expansion of the tissue. A phase-sensitive optical coherence tomography system (central wavelength ofλ=1.288 μm, a bandwidth of 60.9 nm and a sweep rate of 104.17 kHz) was integrated with an Er:YAG laser using a custom-made dichromatic mirror. Phase calibration was performed by monitoring the temperature changes (thermal camera) and corresponding cumulative phase changes using the phase-sensitive optical coherence tomography system during laser ablation. In this experiment, we ...

Effect of photobiomodulation on the behaviour of mesenchymal stem cells in three-dimensional cultures
AbstractPhotobiomodulation (PBM) has been proposed as a strategy to improve the regenerative capacity of human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs). Yet, this effect has been proved in 2D culture conditions. To analyze the effect of different doses of laser irradiation (660  nm) with different levels of energy (1 J, 2 J and 6 J) on hASCs cultured at 2D and 3D conditions. We used gellan gum spongy-like hydrogels as a biomaterial to 3D culture hASCs. Different doses (1–7 daily irradiations) and energy levels (1-6 J) of PBM were applied, and the metabolic activity, viability, proliferation, and release of ROS and IL-8 wa...

Evaluation of the effect of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) on function, muscle strength, range of motion, pain level, and femoral cartilage thickness in knee osteoarthritis: randomized controlled study
In conclusion, there was no statistically significant difference between HILT + exercise and placebo laser + exercise observed. However, the exercise program performed under the supervision of a physiotherapist has been shown to be effective in improving all parameters. (Source: Lasers in Medical Science)

Do erbium lasers promote changes in the tooth enamel during debonding of ceramic laminate veneers? A systematic review
AbstractThe longevity of ceramic laminate veneers can be influenced by several factors, which can result in the need for a removal process. Laser removal has emerged as a good alternative to facilitate the procedure, and its repercussions on tooth enamel have been investigated. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of erbium lasers for debonding ceramic laminate veneers without damaging the tooth enamel. This systematic review based on the PICOS model adhered to the PRISMA statement. The PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, and Scopus databases were systematically searched until December 1, 2022, and 2902 studies were retri...

Bioburden assessment of necrotic teeth disinfected with sodium hypochlorite, diode laser, and photodynamic therapy using flow cytometry —a randomized double-blinded clinical trial
This study aimed to comparatively evaluate the disinfecting potential of sodium hypochlorite, diode laser, and photodynamic therapy in non-vital teeth with or without periapical rarefaction. Forty-five patients with the diagnosis of pulp necrosis with apical rarefaction were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 15) based on the disinfection protocol. Access cavities were prepared and pre-instrumentation microbial samples were taken using a paper point. Working length determination followed by cleaning and shaping with rotary files was performed. The canals were lubricated with ethylenediaminetetraac etic acid (EDTA) ...

Reactive oxygen species creation by laser-irradiated indocyanine green as photodynamic therapy modality: an in vitro study
AbstractApplications of lasers in phototherapy have been the trend for the last few decades. The photodynamic therapy process normally depends on photosensitizers and laser beams. Through this study, indocyanine green has been used as a photosensitizer, which is normally activated using laser lines between 750 and 805 nm. The activity of the indocyanine green to do fluorescence by other pulsed laser sources has been tested by fluorescence technique, and it has been proven that the laser lines at 810, 940, and 980nm are able to excite the indocyanine green with different extents. The indocyanine green activation has been te...

Investigation of the bleaching efficiencies of different office type bleaching techniques and the changes caused on the enamel surface
In this study, 75 human molar teeth are used. The teeth are divided in half in the mesiodistal direction, and a total of 150 enamel samples are obtained. The obtained samples are split into 3 main groups to evaluate the bleaching efficiency, surface roughness, and enamel surface hardness, and each group is composed of 50 samples. Then, each main group was divided into 5 separate subgroups (n = 10) containing 5 varied bleaching techniques. Before the bleaching, color measurement with a spectrophotometer, surface roughness with a profilometer, and microhardness measurement with Vickers test device are performed. After th...
