Use of child safety seats during transportation of newborns.
CONCLUSION: Despite the legal regulation, most parents transport their newborn infants without a CSS while traveling from hospital to their home. The rate of CSS use was influenced by parental education and their knowledge about its necessity. Education programs for parents must be reinforced to increase the CSS use. Pediatric kidney transplantation is different from adult kidney transplantation.
Authors: Cho MH Abstract Kidney transplantation (KT) is the gold standard for renal replacement therapy in pediatric patients with end-stage renal disease. Recently, it has been observed that the outcome of pediatric KT is nearly identical to that in adults owing to the development and application of a variety of immunosuppressants and newer surgical techniques. However, owing to several differences in characteristics between children and adults, pediatric KT requires that additional information be learned and is associated with added concerns. These differences include post-KT complications, donor-recipie...

Outcome of neonatal palliative procedure for pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect or tetralogy of Fallot with severe pulmonary stenosis: experience in a single tertiary center.
CONCLUSION: For initial palliation of patients with PA VSD or TOF with severe PS, not only shunt operation but also RV-PA connection approach can provide an acceptable outcome. To select the most proper surgical strategy, we recommend thorough evaluation of cardiac anomalies such as RVOT and PA morphologies and consideration of the patient's condition. Autoimmunity and intestinal colonization by Candida albicans in patients with type 1 diabetes at the time of the diagnosis.
CONCLUSION: Through this study, we suggest that the presence of intestinal C. albicans colonization at the time of the diagnosis of T1DM may indicate impairment of normal intestinal microbiota. We also suggest that there may be a tendency of T1DM in patients with a high prevalence of intestinal C. albicans. PMID: 30032588 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Final height of Korean patients with early treated congenital hypothyroidism.
CONCLUSION: Early intervention and satisfactory management do not appear to impede growth in Korean patients with CH. Thus, early detection and proper management of patients with CH detected by newborn screening program are necessary. PMID: 30032589 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Changes of the growth plate in children: 3-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging analysis.
CONCLUSION: No significant correlation was found between changes in the growth plate and clinical parameters in children with growth retardation in this study, other than correlations of change in femoral diameter with weight and BMI. A larger, long-term study is needed to precisely evaluate the correlation between change in the growth plate and growth. PMID: 30032590 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Esophageal perforation in children: etiology and management, with special reference to endoscopic esophageal perforation.
Authors: Govindarajan KK Abstract Perforation of the esophagus is an uncommon problem with significant morbidity and mortality. In children undergoing endoscopy, the risk of perforation is higher when interventional endoscopy is performed. The clinical features depend upon the site of esophageal perforation. Opinions vary regarding the optimal treatment protocol, and the role of conservative management in this context is not well established. Esophageal perforation that occurs as a consequence of endoscopy in children requires careful evaluation and management, as outlined in this article. PMID: 29...

Outcome of ultrasonographic imaging in infants with sacral dimple.
Conclusion: In this study, all but one infant with a sacral dimple had benign imaging findings. USG can be recommended in infants with a sacral dimple for its convenience and safety. PMID: 29963103 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Breast abscess caused by Staphylococcus aureus in 2 adolescent girls with atopic dermatitis.
Authors: Park SM, Choi WS, Yoon Y, Jung GH, Lee CK, Ahn SH, Wonsuck Y, Yoo Y Abstract Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in children. Patients with AD experience a high rate of colonization of the skin surface by Staphylococcus aureus. Because of a skin barrier defect, there is a potential risk of staphylococcal invasive infection in patients with AD. Here, we present 2 cases of breast abscess caused by S. aureus in 2 adolescent girls with severe AD. Methicillin-sensitive S. aureus was identified from the breast abscess material. They were treated with appropriate antibiotics, ho...
