Neuroprotective effect of erythropoietin on anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity through the modulation of autophagy in Caenorhabditis elegans
CONCLUSION: Erythropoietin showed neuroprotective effects against AIN and modulated the autophagic pathway in C. elegans. This experimental evidence of erythropoietin-related neuroprotection against AIN may be correlated with the induced autophagic degradation process that was sufficient for handling enhanced autophagy induction in erythropoietin-treated worms.PMID:38356139 | DOI:10.4097/kja.23789 (Source: Korean Journal of Anesthesiology)

Comparison of effects of telmisartan versus valsartan on post-induction hypotension during noncardiac surgery: A prospective observational study
CONCLUSIONS: The angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) type did not influence post-induction hypotension during anesthesia induction. Age and preoperative initial mean BP in OR were associated with post-induction hypotension in patients taking ARBs.PMID:38311886 | DOI:10.4097/kja.23658 (Source: Korean Journal of Anesthesiology)

Perioperative Management of Patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices
Korean J Anesthesiol. 2024 Jan 29. doi: 10.4097/kja.23826. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe use of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) has increased significantly in recent years. Consequently, more patients with CIEDs will undergo surgery during their lifetime, and thus the involvement of anesthesiologists in the perioperative management of CIEDs is increasing. With ongoing advancements in technology, many types of CIEDs have been developed, including permanent pacemakers, leadless pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy-pacemakers/defibrillators, and implantable ...

The impact of preoperative coronavirus disease 19 infection on early postoperative mortality during the vaccination era: a nationwide retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 infection eight weeks preoperatively was associated with an increased 30-day postoperative mortality. Preoperative full vaccination was not associated with 30-day mortality but was related to lower risk of 90-day mortality and 30-day respiratory complications.PMID:38273737 | DOI:10.4097/kja.23761 (Source: Korean Journal of Anesthesiology)
