Continuous Optimisation of Experimental Models - an Example from Glaucoma Research
CONCLUSION: Modifications introduced to an established in vitro perfusion model improved its efficacy and reproducibility. Our adjusted model is an example of how many models can be optimised through critical analysis, thereby saving resources and providing reliable results in the long run.PMID:37995716 | DOI:10.1055/a-2069-2443 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Neovascular Glaucomas - Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, Treatment and Prophylaxis
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1055/a-2193-2448. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a severe potentially blinding disease, which represents one of the most common types of secondary glaucomas. The majority of cases are caused by ischemic retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, central retinal vein occlusion or ocular ischemic syndrome. If appropriately diagnosed and treated, ideally the development of NVG can be prevented. Since treatment gets increasingly challenging as the disease progresses, early diagnosis is of utmost importance. In this review pathogenesis, diagnosis, t...

Intermediate and Posterior Uveitis - Classification, diagnostics, complications, and therapeutic algorithms
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1055/a-2193-2509. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntermediate and posterior uveitis describes a broad variety of different types of intraocular inflammation. Before starting treatment of intermediate or posterior uveitis, a differentiation between infectious or non-infectious uveitis must always be made. Pathognomonic symptoms do not exist, visual loss and vitreous floaters are the most common symptoms. The indication for therapy is influenced by the anatomical localization, the degree of inflammation, an association, complications and the activity of the inflammation. In additio...

Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Current Aspects of Diagnosis and Therapy
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1055/a-2193-2658. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBacterial conjunctivitis is a leading cause of infectious conjunctivitis in children and second most common cause in adults. Although often self-limiting, it can lead to complications like corneal scarring and systemic infections in high-risk groups including newborns and immunocompromised patients. Thus, prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential for these vulnerable populations. Common bacterial causes are Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae in adults and Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis in childr...
