Tumor- und -strahlenbedingte Komplikationen nach Ruthenium-106 Brachytherapie bei kleinen bis mittelgro ßen Aderhautmelanomen (Teil 1)
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that ruthenium-106 brachytherapy is an excellent treatment option for achieving local tumor control and eye preservation in well selected patients. The metastatic rate is in agreement with that in previous studies analyzing small to medium size uveal melanomas.KEYWORDS: uveal melanoma, 106-Ruthenium, brachytherapy, epidemiology Ziel: Das Ziel dieser Studie war die Analyse tumor- und strahlen-bedingter Komplikationen nach Ruthenium-106-Brachytherapie bei Patienten mit Aderhautmelanom hinsichtlich lokaler Tumorkontrolle, unzureichender Strahlenreaktion, Enukleationsrate und Metastasierungsr...

Impact of Pachychoroid and DRIL on the Treatment of Diabetic Macular Oedema with Intravitreal Bevacizumab
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates statistically significant functional and anatomical improvement in patients with DME treated with intravitreal bevacizumab after 2 years. However, more than 40% of eyes required a switch in therapy. The presence of DRILs at baseline had a negative effect whereas the presence of PC at baseline had no effect on clinical outcome.PMID:38354750 | DOI:10.1055/a-2231-6479 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Ocular Involvement in Graft-versus-Host Disease
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Jan 23. doi: 10.1055/a-2218-0237. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn ocular graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), an inflammatory reaction occurs at the ocular surface after transplantation of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cells. Self-reactive T cells of the donor are particularly responsible for this. This can lead to a pronounced wetting disorder of the ocular surface, conjunctival hyperemia, and corneal ulceration up to perforation. The ocular GVHD is associated with a high degree of suffering, such as pain, photophobia, and reduction in visual acuity. This review provides an overview of typical o...

Recurrent exposure of Preserflo Microshunt implant
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Jan 22. doi: 10.1055/a-2250-9841. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPreserflo Microshunt is a novel trans-scleral device able to shunt aqueous humor from the anterior chamber to a filtering bleb under Tenon´s capsule and conjunctiva. Although commonly results a safe and effective technique for lowering IOP in patients with open-angle glaucoma, it is not exempt from transient complications. A careful individually selection of the patients and risk factors results important before planning the surgery in order to manage postoperative ocular surface complications.PMID:38253333 | DOI:10.1055/a-2250-98...

Cataract Classification Systems: A Review
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Jan;241(1):75-83. doi: 10.1055/a-2003-2369. Epub 2024 Jan 19.ABSTRACTCataract is among the leading causes of visual impairment worldwide. Innovations in treatment have drastically improved patient outcomes, but to be properly implemented, it is necessary to have the right diagnostic tools. This review explores the cataract grading systems developed by researchers in recent decades and provides insight into both merits and limitations. To this day, the gold standard for cataract classification is the Lens Opacity Classification System III. Different cataract features are graded according to stan...
