Small and Large Bowel Anatomy is Associated with Enteral Autonomy in Infants with Short Bowel Syndrome: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Overall 62% of infants with IF secondary to SBS achieved EA over a mean time of follow-up of 2.3 years. A colon length of >50% can compensate for the loss of small bowel (<50%) and account for similar EA rates as in children with residual SB>50%. This article is protected by copyright. Association between calorie surplus and ICU length of stay in the critically ill: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Overfeeding represents an easily modifiable factor to improve outcomes in patients suffering from persistent critical illness, for which indirect calorimetry may be useful. Peripherally inserted central catheter securement with cyanoacrylate glue and bloodstream infection: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: In a population dominated by esophago-gastroenterological malignancy, peripherally inserted central catheter securement via CG was associated with decreased catheter removal due to suspected catheter infection. Further research on larger cohorts is needed to determine if other adverse events decrease following peripherally inserted central catheter securement via CG. This article is protected by copyright. A Comparison of Health-related Quality of Life in Chronic Intestinal Failure and End-Stage Kidney Disease: A Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSION: HRQOL was similarly and significantly reduced in people with CIF and in people with ESKD on HD. People with ESKD on HD had significantly poorer HRQOL than people with CIF in some aspects of physical and mental health. Access to HPS treatment varies among countries which typically provide HD, suggesting an inequality in health care based on the type of organ failure. This article is protected by copyright. Association between fat-free mass and survival in critically ill patients with COVID-19: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Fat-free mass decreased significantly during acute and late phase of illness, but we observed no association with ICU survival. Only low PA was associated with prolonged LOS. Fat-free mass wasting occurred likely due to disease severity and immobility. This article is protected by copyright.
