Associations of Blood Cadmium Levels With Depression and Lower Handgrip Strength in a Community-Dwelling Elderly Population: A Repeated-Measures Panel Study
Conclusions: After adjusting for potential confounders, blood cadmium concentrations were associated with depression and lower handgrip strength in an elderly population. The participants’ depressive status partially mediated the association between cadmium levels and handgrip strength. Effect of Statin Use on Mobility Disability and its Prevention in At-risk Older Adults: The LIFE Study
Conclusions: Although statins have been associated with adverse effects on muscle, data from the LIFE Study show that statin users and nonusers both benefit from PA interventions. Older adults who require statin medications to manage chronic medical conditions and are sedentary will be able to benefit from interventions to increase PA. Hip Fracture Surgery and Survival in Centenarians
Conclusion: Survival analysis exhibited an excess mortality in the first 3 months among HF cohort members, but not beyond this period. Every effort to counteract HF is warranted, including prevention of falls and high quality of care, especially in the early postsurgical time. Association of Plasma Small-Molecule Intermediate Metabolites With Age and Body Mass Index Across Six Diverse Study Populations
Conclusions: An important focus of future investigations should be to determine whether these clusters of metabolic intermediates are possible early predictors of health outcomes associated with body mass; are involved with accelerated aging; are involved in the causative pathway of aging; and how modification of these metabolic pathways impact the biology of aging. Trajectories of Unhealthy Behaviors in Midlife and Risk of Disability at Older Ages in the Whitehall II Cohort Study
Conclusions: Unhealthy behavior trajectories in midlife are associated with greater disability risk later in life. (Source: Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences)

Prospective Study of Trajectories of Physical Performance and Mortality Among Community-Dwelling Older Japanese
Conclusions: Regardless of baseline level, the PPMs tended to show similar age-related changes in later life. However, individuals in low PPM trajectory groups had a higher mortality risk, which highlights the importance of interventions that maintain or improve physical performance, even among older adults with low physical performance.
