Sortilin-induced lipid accumulation and atherogenesis are suppressed by HNF1b SUMOylation promoted by flavone of Polygonatum odoratum
This study aims to investigate the impact of hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 β (HNF1b) on macrophage sortilin-mediated lipid metabolism and aortic atherosclerosis and explore the role of the flavone ofPolygonatum odoratum (PAOA-flavone)-promoted small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) modification in the atheroprotective efficacy of HNF1b. HNF1b was predicted to be a transcriptional regulator of sortilin expression via bioinformatics, dual-luciferase reporter gene assay, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. HNF1b overexpression decreased sortilin expression and cellular lipid contents in THP-1 macrophages, leading to a depressi...

Spatial expression of the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay factors UPF3A and UPF3B among mouse tissues
UPF3(Up-frameshift protein 3)是一个核心的NMD因子,它最早在酵母中被发现。UPF3A和UPF3B是UPF3在生物进化到脊椎动物阶段出现的两个旁系同源物,在NMD中具有激活或抑制的作用。以往研究发现,UPF3B蛋 白几乎在所有哺...

Spatiotemporal coding of natural odors in the olfactory bulb

Application of silk fibroin coatings for biomaterial surface modification: a silk road for biomedicine
AbstractSilk fibroin (SF) as a natural biopolymer has become a popular material for biomedical applications due to its minimal immunogenicity, tunable biodegradability, and high biocompatibility. Nowadays, various techniques have been developed for the applications of SF in bioengineering. Most of the literature reviews focus on the SF-based biomaterials and their different forms of applications such as films, hydrogels, and scaffolds. SF is also valuable as a coating on other substrate materials for biomedicine; however, there are few reviews related to SF-coated biomaterials. Thus, in this review, we focused on the surfa...

Application of interim PET-CT in first-line treatment decision-making for lymphoma
AbstractRecent advances in lymphoma treatment have significantly improved the survival of patients; however, the current approaches also have varying side effects. To overcome these, it is critical to implement individualized treatment according to the patient ’s condition. Therefore, the early identification of high-risk groups and targeted treatment are important strategies for prolonging the survival time and improving the quality of life of patients. Interim positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) has a high prognostic value, which can reflect chemosensitivity and identify patients for whom treatmen...

Cellulose nanofibril matrix drives the dynamic formation of spheroids
This study introduces an efficient method to drive rapid multicellular spheroid formation by a cellulose nanofibril matrix. This matrix enables the facilitated growth of spheroids (within 48 h) through multiple cell assembly into size-controllable aggregates with well-organized physiological microstructure. The efficiency, dimension, and conformation of the as-formed spheroids depend on the concentration of extracellular nanofibrils, the number of assembled cells, and the heterogeneity of cell types. The above strategy allows the robust formation mechanism of compacted tumoroids and hepatocyte spheroids. (Source: Journal o...

Development and validation of a risk-prediction model for immune-related adverse events in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer receiving PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors

Photobiomodulation therapy assisted orthodontic tooth movement: potential implications, challenges, and new perspectives
AbstractOver the past decade, dramatic progress has been made in dental research areas involving laser therapy. The photobiomodulatory effect of laser light regulates the behavior of periodontal tissues and promotes damaged tissues to heal faster. Additionally, photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), a non-invasive treatment, when applied in orthodontics, contributes to alleviating pain and reducing inflammation induced by orthodontic forces, along with improving tissue healing processes. Moreover, PBMT is attracting more attention as a possible approach to prevent the incidence of orthodontically induced inflammatory root reso...

Molecular dynamics simulation reveals DNA-specific recognition mechanism via c-Myb in pseudo-palindromic consensus of mim-1 promoter
This study aims to gain insight into the DNA-specific recognition mechanism of c-Myb transcription factor during the regulation of cell early differentiation and proliferation. Therefore, we chose the chicken myeloid gene, mitochondrial import protein 1 (mim-1), as a target to study the binding specificity between potential dual-Myb-binding sites. The c-Myb-binding site inmim-1 is a pseudo-palindromic sequence AACGGTT, which contains two AACNG consensuses. Simulation studies in different biological scenarios revealed that c-Myb binding withmim-1 in the forward strand (complex F) is more stable than that in the reverse stra...

Current insights on rice (Oryza sativa L.) bakanae disease and exploration of its management strategies
AbstractBakanae is an emerging rice disease caused by the seed- and soil-borne pathogenFusarium fujikuroi. It is becoming a more serious threat to sustainable rice production throughout rice-growing regions. Bakanae disease infection is responsible for high yield losses ranging from 3% to 95%, and disease incidence varies based on the region and cultivars. Hence, understanding the nature of the pathogen, its pathogenicity, disease epidemiology, symptoms, host –pathogen interaction, and the role of secondary metabolites in the disease cycle will be helpful in the development of effective and sustainable management strateg...

OCT4 ’s role and mechanism underlying oral squamous cell carcinoma
AbstractOral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), a common malignancy of the head and neck, ranks sixth worldwide in terms of cancers with the most negative impact, owing to tumor relapse rates, cervical lymphnode metastasis, and the lack of an efficacious systemic therapy. Its prognosis is poor, and its mortality rate is high. Octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (OCT4) is a member of the Pit-Oct-Unc (POU) family and is a key reprogramming factor that produces a marked effect in preserving the pluripotency and self-renewal state of embryonic stem cells (ESCs). According to recent studies, OCT4 participates in retaining the s...
