Evaluating Geographic Access to Interdisciplinary Laryngology and Speech-Language Pathology Clinic Models in the Southeast Region of the United States
An interdisciplinary model of care for the evaluation and treatment of voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders with laryngologists and specialized speech-language pathologists is known to increase revenue, attendance to visits, patient adherence, and most importantly, improve patient outcomes. Individuals who live outside of areas with high population density often have reduced geographic access to this specialized care. The primary aim of this study is to identify the percentage of the population that has an “extended drive time” to access an interdisciplinary clinic in the Southeast region of the United States....

Effects of Cognitive Load on Vocal Fold Vibratory Patterns in Bilingual Speakers of Low and High German
Increased cognitive load has been observed to correlate with decreased vocal fold perturbation, reduced additive noise, increased periodicity, and a higher rate of vocal fold vibration. The aim of this study was to explore whether vocal fold vibratory patterns can serve as indicators of increased cognitive load in nonbalanced bilingual speakers when they use their weaker language. Vocal Tract Discomforts among Smokers
Smoking is a dangerous behavior for the human body and the vocal tract. Smoking can cause several laryngeal and vocal tract symptoms in smokers. One of these symptoms can be physical discomfort experienced by this population. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate vocal tract discomfort (VTD) in smokers compared to healthy non-smoker participants. (Source: Journal of Voice)

Boys Choirs in the Pandemic: Effects of Distance and Other Factors on Spectral and Temporal Accuracy
This study analyzed recordings of six groups of five singers each from two boys’ choirs aged 7–16 who sang Beethoven’s Ode to Joy while standing on an arc with a 4 m radius and an inter-subject spacing of 0.5–3 m. The effects of singers’ masks, distance, group age , and relative position on the timing of articulation and fundamental frequency were investigated, along with the amount, rate, and sign of pitch drift and loudness. Features Associated With High Risk of Recurrence in Saccular Laryngeal Cysts: A Systematic Review and Qualitative Synthesis
Saccular cysts are rare benign anomalies of the larynx (1.5% of laryngeal anomalies) determined by dilatation of the laryngeal saccule. They can be congenital or acquired. Clinical manifestation depends on the site of the cyst and the age of the patient. Children frequently have stridor and dyspnea, while adults usually complain of dysphonia. The therapeutic approach can be surgical or nonsurgical (needle aspiration or drainage). However, guidelines on the management of this disease are lacking in the literature. This systematic literature review was conducted through an interferential analysis with the aim of detecting the a...
