Larvicidal property and active compound profiling of < em > Annona squamosa < /em > leaf extracts against two species of diptera, < em > Aedes aegypti < /em > and < em > Anopheles stephensi < /em >
CONCLUSION: This finding showed that the ASME has better larvicidal activity and its components that may be used to kill larvae as larvicides. The extracts toxicity towards damage of midgut of larva further suggests that this plant methanol leaf extracts could be effective in larval growth control approaches.PMID:38174518 | DOI:10.4103/0972-9062.383647 (Source: Journal of Vector Borne Diseases)

Visceral leishmaniasis in new foci areas of Nepal: Sources and extent of infection
CONCLUSION: One major challenge of VL elimination in the maintenance phase is the spread of infection through travelers to new foci areas, which needs to be under continuous surveillance accompanied by vector control activities. This should be confirmed by a large-scale analytical study.PMID:38174519 | DOI:10.4103/0972-9062.383637 (Source: Journal of Vector Borne Diseases)

Seasonal prevalence of dengue vector mosquito < em > Aedes aegypti < /em > Linn in Jaipur city, Rajasthan, India
CONCLUSION: This survey was carried out to investigate the seasonal prevalence of dengue vectors and the findings revealed seasonal fluctuations in the indices of Aedes reproducing potential. This calls for precautionary actions to avoid infection rates and epidemic emergence. Therefore, to stop epidemics and eradicate vector-borne infections, the current study recommends close monitoring and further vector management efforts.PMID:38174520 | DOI:10.4103/0972-9062.383645 (Source: Journal of Vector Borne Diseases)

Clinical characteristics and outcome of severe malaria in Kapit, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo
CONCLUSION: P. knowlesi is the most common cause of severe malaria in Kapit, Sarawak, Malaysia. Recognizing symptoms of severe malaria and prompt administration of antimalarial are critical for good clinical outcomes.PMID:38174522 | DOI:10.4103/0972-9062.374238 (Source: Journal of Vector Borne Diseases)

Comparative efficacy of natural aquatic predators for biological control of mosquito larvae: A neglected tool for vector control
J Vector Borne Dis. 2023 Oct-Dec;60(4):435-438. doi: 10.4103/0972-9062.374240.ABSTRACTMosquitoes are a dominant fraction of dipteran fauna, occupying a variety of niches. The most common method deployed for their control is the use of insecticides. Throughout their life cycle they are exposed to a wide range of predators in different habitats, thus biological control of mosquitoes by using aquatic predators has been suggested. Therefore, the present study was carried out to explore the type of natural predators coexisting with the mosquito larvae in still water bodies and to determine their efficacy as predators for mosqui...

An updated list of mosquito species in Armenia and Transcaucasian region responsible for < em > Dirofilaria < /em > transmission: A review
J Vector Borne Dis. 2023 Oct-Dec;60(4):343-352. doi: 10.4103/0972-9062.374035.ABSTRACTCanine dirofilariasis is a world-wide distributed mosquito-borne helminthiasis that has a potential zoonotic impact. This disease is a serious problem in Southern Caucasus region, including Armenia. Average extensity of Dirofilaria infection in canids in Armenia is 26.9%. At present, 77 mosquito species (Diptera: Culicidae) are presumed to have a role in the transmission of dirofilariasis. 80 species of Culicidae family mosquitoes are registered in Southern Caucasus Region, and 31 of them are described in Armenia. The following species of...

Diagnosis of neuroborreliosis in the context of local seroprevalence: A chart review study and a methodological overview
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that recombinant antigen-based two-tier serology from solely the sera might have sufficient positive predictive value to verify NB in young individuals with characteristic anamnestic data in our region. When parallel serum-CSF testing is warranted, AI should have priority. IgG and albumin concentrations in the both serum and the CSF, the potential time of exposure and the nature and duration of symptoms form the bare minimal set of data for conclusive testing.PMID:38174513 | DOI:10.4103/0972-9062.374040 (Source: Journal of Vector Borne Diseases)
