The epidemiological characteristics of sleep disordered breathing in congestive heart failure: A prospective, single centre study in Southeast Asia
CONCLUSION: Most of the CHF patients were found to have SDB with the utility of PSG. Local CHF guidelines should include sleep testing for all patients with CHF.The study is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05332223) as 'The Epidemiological Characteristics of SDB in Patients with Reduced or Preserved EF CHF'.PMID:38509698 | DOI:10.1177/14782715241239704 (Source: Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh)

Plasma exchange for the management of digoxin toxicity in an individual with an acute kidney injury: A case report
We present a case of a gentleman with severe digoxin toxicity and acute kidney injury (AKI). Despite receiving DSA doses, his digoxin levels rebounded and symptoms persisted. Based on published case reports, plasma exchange (PEX) after further dosing was arranged. PEX facilitated the removal of digoxin-DSA complexes, bypassing renal excretion. During PEX, clinical signs improved and were sustained. He did not require further dialysis or PEX, renal function recovered and he was discharged. This case highlights challenges in the management of severe digoxin toxicity in patients with a concurrent AKI. The use of PEX enabled d...

Drug-induced chylothorax as a rare pleural complication in dasatinib therapy for chronic myeloid leukaemia
J R Coll Physicians Edinb. 2024 Mar 14:14782715241237577. doi: 10.1177/14782715241237577. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChylothorax is a lymphatic chylous pleural effusion typically associated with traumatic (iatrogenic, non-iatrogenic) and non-traumatic (infections, malignancy, lymphatic disorders) aetiologies. Drug-induced chylothorax is uncommon and mostly reported in association with BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy.PMID:38486345 | DOI:10.1177/14782715241237577 (Source: Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh)

A case of early intraventricular haemorrhage following ventriculoperitoneal shunt: An entity requiring consideration
J R Coll Physicians Edinb. 2024 Mar 10:14782715241237579. doi: 10.1177/14782715241237579. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VP shunt) is one of the most common neurosurgical procedures performed in daily practice. Various complications following a VP shunt are as follows: post-procedure shunt-related infections, shunt block, shunt displacement or exteriorisation and haemorrhage associated with it. Delayed intraventricular haemorrhage is a relatively uncommon complication following the aforementioned procedure. Here we present an atypical case of a 72-year-old male who presented with subarachnoid...
