The Association between Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Periodontal Conditions: Is There a Common Bacterial Etiology?
CONCLUSION: A number of studies have showed an association between PD and IBD. Both diseases share genetic and environmental etiological factors. The precise role of intestinal bacteria remains vague. The periodontal microbiota that might be involved in the association of these diseases are Fusobacterium nucleatum, Campylobacter rectus and Campylobacter concisus. Fungal and viral microbiota dysbiosis should also be evaluated as common pathogenic pathways in IBD and periodontal disease. Comparative Clinical Evaluation between Conventional Periodontal Treatment and Full Mouth Disinfection.
Authors: Pontillo V, Miziak DB, Maller ACPA, Nassar PO, Nassar CA Abstract Periodontal disease is chronic and multifactorial, affecting protection and support tissues of the tooth. Its onset is due to the accumulation of bacterial plaque, in which are found microorganisms, mainly Gram-negative, which stimulate the host cells and the production of immune-inflammatory molecules. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of two techniques of periodontal treatment through clinical parameters and laboratory tests. For this, 42 patients were randomly evaluated and divided into three groups of...

Evaluation of the Efficacy of Strontium Chloride, Biodentine ® and Biodentine® in Combination with Diode Laser in the Management of Dentinal Hypersensitivity- An In vitro SEM Study.
CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this study it was concluded that Biodentine® alone showed better results than Biodentine® in combination with diode laser for dentinal tubule occlusion. However, when laser was used over Biodentine® in contact mode, the results showed Biodentine® to have a melted appearance, rather than the irregular fibrillar structures usually seen. This in vitro study was performed on extracted teeth which do not mimic the natural biological environment. A second surgical procedure was performed to curette the lesion and fill the defect with a xenogeneic bone graft. Twenty months after implant placement and 10 months after the second surgery, there was no sign of recurrence of the lesion and radiographic evaluation was consistent with new bone formation in the region. The Potential Role of Curcumin in Periodontal Therapy: A Review of the Literature.
Authors: Livada R, Shiloah J, Tipton DA, Dabbous MK Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease in the oral cavity caused by bacterial biofilm attached to tooth surfaces. The periodontal pathogenic microorganisms trigger the disease process; however, the destruction of the periodontium is mostly caused by the host's immune response to the bacterial insults. The main thrust of periodontal therapy has been centered traditionally on reducing the microbial load by mechanical and antimicrobial means. This approach has been reported to be effective for the majority of patients and sites. However, modulating ...

Root Coverage of Palatal Recession Using Epithelial Embossed Connective Tissue: A Case Report.
Authors: Rath A, Fernandes B, R PH, Varma S, Pavuluri AK Abstract Labial and buccal gingival recession is a common finding in the adult population, which can occur due to various factors. When present, it can lead to an unesthetic appearance and can cause hypersensitivity. However, very limited literature is available regarding the incidence of palatal gingival recession. Many times it goes unnoticed during routine clinical examinations. Although there are no esthetic concerns in these regions, recession can cause sensitivity and pose a technical challenge in surgical correction because of poor accessibility and vi...
