Audit on Compliance to Guidelines in CT Scanning for Urolithiasis
Conclusion: Surveying compliance to procedures can improve compliance but only for a limited duration. Monitoring compliance more frequently or even continuously is recommended. Published on 2022-12-09 07:48:22 (Source: Journal of the Belgian Society of Radiology)

Subsolid Nodule Harbouring Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma of Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue
We present the case of a 74-year-old man with a large persistent well-defined subsolid nodule on CT. Although the lesion had a predominant ground-glass appearance on CT,18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) showed moderate FDG uptake. Lobectomy was performed and histopathologic examination showed an extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue.Teaching Point: When large persistent subsolid nodule with a predominant ground-glass aspect shows moderate uptake on18F-FDG-PET, other possible diagnoses than adenocarcinoma should be kept in mind, including primary pulmonary lymph...

Splenic and Portal Vein Thrombosis after Splenectomy: A Case Report
We present the case of a 40-year-old man who underwent curative and diagnostic laparotomic splenectomy following chronic thrombocytopenia and concurrent splenomegaly who subsequently developed extensive portal and splenic vein thrombosis.Teaching Point: Portal and splenic vein thrombosis after splenectomy is a relatively uncommon but important diagnosis in which radiology has a pivotal role. MR Imaging of the Pelvic Bones: The Current and Cutting-Edge Techniques
This review presents an overview of the spectrum of the current and cutting-edge MRI techniques for pelvic bone imaging in clinical practice. The current MRI sequences and their advantages, disadvantages and usefullness in the imaging of this complex anatomical region are addressed. Finally, cutting-edge techniques are discussed, including susceptibility weighted MRI, ultrashort echo time MRI, zero echo time MRI and a deep learning-based multiparametric MRI technique named ‘synthetic CT,’ creating CT-like images without ionizing radiaton. Main PointsGRE, SWI, UTE, ZTE MRI and synthetic CT sequences depict the cortical...

Inferior Alveolar Intraneural Cyst Arising from Temporomandibular Joint
Teaching Point: Cystic nerve enlargement near a joint should evoke an intraneural synovial cyst and lead to the tracking of the articular connection for confirmation, where ever the location within the body is. Published on 2022-11-22 11:31:29 (Source: Journal of the Belgian Society of Radiology)

Current practice and new insights in thyroid ultrasound
Thyroid nodules are common and detected in 2 –6% in the adult population by palpation. This prevalence increased to 40–60% with the use of ultrasound. Thyroid cancer is rare, with 1020 new cancers (751 women and 287 male) registered in 2019 in Belgium [1]. Ultrasound imaging represents the cornerstone for the thyroid nodule work-up and has benefited from significant improvements in recent years. We succinctly focus on how to evaluate thyroid nodules using ultrasonography and how to use the European Thyroid Imaging and Reporting Data System (EU-TIRADS score). We will also review the possible added value of complementary...

Imaging of the Infrahyoid Neck: Systematic Approach
In this presentation a systemic approach to infrahyoid neck imaging analysis is presented based on five individual spaces: the visceral, carotid, retropharyngeal, posterior cervical and perivertebral space. These spaces are defined by the three layers of the Deep Cervical Fascia (DCF). Each space has its own specific anatomical ‘contents’. Therefore, once a disease process is assigned to one space, it is usually possible to formulate a short differential diagnosis based on the anatomy present in that space. Are We Missing Something in the CT-PNS Report? – an Observational Study on the Rate of Reporting the Presence of Dental Disease and the Probable Etiology of Sinusitis on CT Scans
Conclusions: Under-reporting of dental disease and odontogenic sinusitis is common. Early recognition results in higher chances of salvaging the diseased tooth, preventing complications and providing appropriate treatment. An urgent and collective effort by the radiological fraternity is warranted to recognize the significance of reporting of dental pathologies, even in CT scans done for other indications. In-depth Retrospective Review of Originally Negative Screening Mammograms from Women with Confirmed Breast Cancer
Conclusion: This retrospective review reclassified 19% of the sMx as clearly visible tumours. With this, the Flemish screening programme performs in accordance with similar studies. The sMx reviewed in this study, form a valuable set of mammograms for training and further research. Published on 2022-11-11 12:23:21 (Source: Journal of the Belgian Society of Radiology)
