Relationship between HIV and depressive symptomatology in patients from Northern Portugal: Analysis of individual, health and social predictors
Depression is the most prevalent mental disorder in people living with HIV. Our study involved 371 participants in outpatient treatment for HIV in hospitals in northern Portugal. Participants were referred to the study by the attending physician/nurse, and data were collected through an individual interview at a single evaluation moment. Participants were mostly male (70%), with an average age of 46.63 years (SD = 11.77), and a known diagnosis of HIV for an average of 10.13 years (SD = 6.42). Severe depressive symptoms were identified in 18% of participants. (Source: Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care)

Accommodating Indigenous Nurse-Initiated and Managed Antiretroviral Therapy (NIMART) Reporting in a Developing Country Context
Financial reporting represents a critical tool in eliminating HIV across Papua New Guinea (PNG). Using the tenets of the theory of indigenous alternative reporting, this paper considers how the PNG Nursing Council may accommodate nurse-initiated and managed antiretroviral therapy (NIMART) reporting. Textual analysis of indigenous reporting expectations placed on the PNG Nursing Council are examined in a NIMART context to examine levels of reporting compliance exercised by council administrators from year-end reports (1980 to 2016) to accommodate NIMART reporting. The ethical sensitivity of health care professionals who care for patients living with HIV infection in Hunan, China: A qualitative study
The level of ethical sensitivity of health care professionals who care for patients with HIV may shed light on ethical behaviors in HIV care. However, little research has determined how such professionals view ethical issues in clinical practice in China. The purpose of our qualitative descriptive study was to explore the ethical sensitivity of health care professionals in Hunan Province, China, and to discuss the existing deficiencies. We used purposive sampling to recruit 17 health care professionals who provided direct care to patients with HIV and conducted interviews with them. Motivation as a Mechanism for Daily Experiences' Effects on HIV Medication Adherence
Medication adherence is a challenge for people living with HIV (PLWH), who may experience a gap between their intentions and everyday behaviors. We measured PLWH's (n  = 87) daily experiences and tested a model to explain the intention-behavior gap. Participants completed baseline questionnaires, then used a smartphone-based survey and an electronic pill bottle to provide daily data for the next 10 weeks. These PLWH, with generally well-controlled HIV, were ne vertheless adherent on only 73% of study days. (Source: Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care)

Characteristics of persons living with HIV who have Informal Caregivers in the cART Age of the Epidemic
People living with HIV (PLWH) are aging and many suffer with multi-morbidities, making caregiving a relevant and important area of study. The purpose of our study was to understand the occurrence and role of informal caregivers in the current stage of the HIV epidemic. We conducted a Web-based survey with 1373 PLWH to assess: how many had an informal, unpaid caregiver; the type of relationship with the informal caregiver; and the number of hours the caregiver provided support each day. Among respondents, 333 had an informal caregiver. (Source: Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care)

HIV-related self-stigma and health-related quality of life of people living with HIV in Finland
We examined how HIV-related self-stigma was associated with different domains of quality of life (QoL), as measured by the WHOQOL-HIV-Bref, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) as measured by the generic 15D, to identify the factors associated with self-stigma of people living with HIV (PLWH). The study sample included 440 patients living with HIV followed at the Infectious Disease Clinic of Helsinki University Hospital. Participants with more severe self-stigma reported significantly lower QoL and HRQoL. (Source: Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care)

Accept or Decline? Deciding Factors in a Voluntary HIV Testing Program for Probationers and Parolees
HIV testing for communities at risk was a key recommendation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy during the Obama Administration. These vulnerable groups include probationers and parolees under community supervision. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (2017), 4,708,100 U.S. adults or 1 in 52 adults were under community supervision at the end of 2014, with the large majority being male and a disproportionate number being non-White. An approximate distinction between the two types is that probationers are low-level offenders who are sentenced directly to community supervision, while parolees have served prison time ...

Meeting the HIV prevention needs of older adults
New HIV in the United States and worldwide is increasing among older adults over the age of 50. Older adults may not perceive their risk of acquiring HIV infection but have similar risk factors as younger people including unprotected sex, multiple sex partners, lack of knowledge about HIV and substance use/abuse. This paper reviews common problems associated with effective HIV prevention among older adults and offers a case study strategy with resources to address the important prevention needs of this population.
