A Statewide Surgical Quality Improvement Collaborative ’s Opioid Data Collection
Our statewide surgical quality improvement (QI) collaborative began collecting opioid data to better understand our patients ’ pain management and discharge opioid prescriptions. During our pilot there was invalid data requiring variable revision. Collection resumed in 1/2020 and was encouraged during COVID-19, acknowledging that we faced reduced and highly selective operative case volumes with reduced resources. Adjustment to Ostomy Based on Socioeconomic Tiers
Life after a stoma surgery can be radically different from that before it in all imaginable aspects. The primary hypothesis of this is “socioeconomic status has an impact on adjustment to stoma and post-ostomy Quality of life”.The secondary objectives include a study of the impact of the stoma on diet of the ostomates,sub-factor analysis physical, mental, social QoL , acceptance and adjustment to factors which are worst affecte d and determinants which explain majority of the variation of the data. Association of Medicaid Expansion with Stage at Presentation in Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma
Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act has been shown to be associated with earlier diagnosis for several cancer types. The aim was to determine whether the proportion of patients diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer (PDAC) differed over time within states that expanded Medicaid in January 2014 (MES) vs. non-Medicaid expansion states (NMES). Comparison of Common Minimally Invasive Operations Using Patient Safety Indicators (PSI)
The PSI 90, is used to monitor hospital safety, quality, and value. It is composed predominantly of PSI 9 (perioperative hemorrhage), 11 (postoperative respiratory failure), 12 (perioperative deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolus), and 13 (postoperative sepsis). MIS has been shown to have fewer complications. We aim to evaluate the rates of PSI between MIS in common procedures. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)
