Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitor-Induced Angioedema of the Small Bowel: A Diagnostic Dilemma
Conclusion: In the literature, we found that age, patient demographics, and careful medical reconciliation, paired with diagnostic clues in radiology, can assist in accurate diagnosis. More broadly, family and emergency medicine physicians, surgeons, radiologists, and internists should be aware of this rare side effect caused by this commonly prescribed medication to avert unnecessary medical treatments and procedures. The Prevalence of Low-Value Prostate Cancer Screening in Primary Care Clinics: A Study Using the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey
Conclusions: The use of low-value PSAs and DREs was sizable during the observed time period. Organizations who want to reduce low-value PSAs and DREs may want to focus interventions on providers who order a high number of tests. (Source: Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine)

Antidepressant Tapering Is Not Routine But Could Be
Discussion: While reports of severe withdrawal are increasingly recognized and must be addressed, our data suggest that many patients can discontinue their antidepressants without a taper through the lowest dose. However, it is difficult to identify which patients will struggle without a careful taper. A "one-size-fits-all" taper approach is recommended, balancing the need for withdrawal prevention with the need to avoid unnecessary complexity for the majority of patients. The first decrement is key for all patients: it must go well. Thereafter many patients may accelerate but all should receive a prescription for the lowe...

Data Challenges in Identifying Patients Due for Colorectal Cancer Screening in Rural Clinics
We report on data challenges in rural clinics and Medicaid health plans in Oregon in identifying patients eligible for CRC screening, in a large project implementing mailed fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) and patient navigation. Methods: We analyzed data from clinic intake surveys and administrative claims. Clinics were asked to identify total population numbers relevant to CRC screening and follow-up. Health plans also identified enrollees eligible for CRC screening in Spring, 2021. Clinic staff validated patient lists for eligibility using their electronic health records (EHR). Results: EHR features varied across the ...

The Association of Practice Type and the Scope of Care of Family Physicians
Conclusions: Significant variation in FP comprehensiveness exists across different practice types. FPs in practice types commonly associated with large health systems had narrower breadth of practice, concerning amid increasing practice consolidation. Given associations between comprehensiveness and desirable health care outcomes, policy makers should encourage payment/accountability models that incentivize broader SOP. The Association Between Cost-Related Non-Adherence Behaviors and Diabetes Outcomes
Conclusions: CRN in patients with diabetes is higher than in other comorbid conditions and is associated with poor diabetes control. These findings may be driven by higher out-of-pocket costs for medications to manage diabetes, lack of symptoms associated with poor diabetes control, or other factors, with implications for both clinicians and health insurance programs.
