Role of strengthening exercises in management and prevention of overuse sports injuries of lower extremity: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: The methodological quality of the recruited articles ranged from excellent to fair on PEDro scale. Three included studies investigated the effects of strengthening exercises on management of lower extremity injuries of athletes. Four studies evaluated its role on prevention from recurrence of injuries. This study has concluded that strength training plays a fundamental role in management and prevention of overuse injuries. It not only improves the muscle performance, fitness level, speed and agility in sports but also decreases the pain, and aids in early recovery from an injury.PMID:38470015 | DOI:10.23736/S0...

Risk of low energy availability, eating disorders and food insecurity amongst development female rugby league players
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest LEA risk is similar to other populations and those at risk of LEA are more likely to have an elevated clinical risk of eating disorders. Food security is also an issue in this population and could contribute to LEA risk for some. Future research is needed amongst team sports athletes to understand interplay between eating disorder risk and food insecurity with LEA risk.PMID:38470016 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.24.15600-9 (Source: Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness)

Exploring the quadriceps muscle architecture variations in various sports disciplines: a comparative analysis of football, taekwondo, and athletics
CONCLUSIONS: Our research findings show that there is a significant relationship between the type of exercise performed and the structural differences observed in the quadriceps muscle. Consequently, it is highly recommended to consider the outcomes of our study for enhancing the efficacy of training programs in the domains of football, taekwondo, and athletics.PMID:38470013 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.24.15382-0 (Source: Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness)

Shoulder pathologies in CrossFit: a magnetic resonance imaging study of 51 cases
CONCLUSIONS: These data demonstrate the need for a specific focus on particular shoulder injuries in CrossFit. Knowledge about the type of shoulder pathologies caused by CrossFit training allows for training-specific adaptations with regard to prevention, as well as a more targeted, sport-specific therapy. This study is the first in the literature to present on structural changes in the shoulders of active CrossFit athletes.PMID:38445843 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.24.15071-2 (Source: Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness)

Effect of unpredictable timing on the hip, knee, and ankle kinematics and center of mass during deceleration tasks
CONCLUSIONS: The deceleration task in this study, SRB, causes a low knee-flexion angle at SS. The COM remained higher during unanticipated stopping, which is related only to hip flexion angle during the task. Knee flexion movement does not contribute to lowering COM during an unpredictable deceleration task.PMID:38445844 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.15344-8 (Source: Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness)
