The relationship between possible, probable, or definite sleep bruxism and sleep quality: A systematic review
J Sleep Res. 2023 Dec 6:e14114. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14114. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt has been suggested that sleep bruxism may interrupt sleep continuity, hence potentially influencing sleep quality. The aim of this study was to systematically review the relationship between possible, probable, and definite sleep bruxism and sleep quality in otherwise healthy individuals. A systematic search on sleep bruxism and sleep quality was performed in seven databases until 19 December 2022. Eligible articles were screened, and quality assessment was performed via the Joanna Briggs Institute Scale. Of 3681 articles screened, 13 ...

What difference does sleep make? Continuous glucose monitoring metrics during fixed-overnight time versus sleep periods among older adults with type 1 diabetes
J Sleep Res. 2023 Dec 5:e14106. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14106. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypoglycaemia during sleep is a common and clinically important issue for people living with insulin-treated diabetes. Continuous glucose monitoring devices can help to identify nocturnal hypoglycaemia and inform treatment strategies. However, sleep is generally inferred, with diabetes researchers and physicians using a fixed-overnight period as a proxy for sleep-wake status when analysing and interpretating continuous glucose monitoring data. No study to date has validated such an approach with established sleep measures. Continuous gluc...

The relationship between obstructive sleep apnea and haemoglobin A1c and the moderating role of glycaemic status in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL)
In conclusion, obstructive sleep apnea was associated with higher HbA1c in a diverse sample of Hispanic/Latino adults in the United States. This association was present only for participants with normal glycaemic status or with prediabetes. Studies are needed to further understand the clinical implications of the association between obstructive sleep apnea and HbA1c according to glycaemic status.PMID:38035753 | DOI:10.1111/jsr.14092 (Source: Journal of Sleep Research)

Memory performance mediates subjective sleep quality associations with cerebrospinal fluid Alzheimer's disease biomarker levels and hippocampal volume among individuals with mild cognitive symptoms
In conclusion, worse subjective sleep quality is associated with less altered AD biomarkers in adults with mild cognitive symptoms (CDR score 0.5). These results could be explained by a systematic recall bias affecting subjective sleep assessment in individuals with incipient memory impairment. Caution should therefore be exercised when interpreting subjective sleep quality measures in memory-impaired populations, emphasising the importance of complementing subjective measures with objective assessments.PMID:38035770 | DOI:10.1111/jsr.14108 (Source: Journal of Sleep Research)

Impact of irregular sleep pattern, and sleep quality on glycaemic parameters and endothelial function in adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes
This study investigated the impact of comprehensive sleep patterns on glycaemic parameters and endothelial function in adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Thirty subjects with type 1 diabetes (aged 13-25) without chronic complications participated. For 1 week, glucose levels were monitored by real-time continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and sleep was simultaneously assessed by actigraphy. Subjective sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) measured endothelial function at the brachial artery. Insulin sensitivity was determined by calcul...
