Reduced Recurrence Rate and Comparable Functionality in Wide Resection and Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty with Allograft-Prosthetic Composite vs. Curettage for Proximal Humerus Giant Cell Tumor: A Multicenter Retrospective Study
Giant cell tumors of bone (GCTB) are rare aggressive tumors and proximal humerus is a relatively rare location for GCTB as well, limited evidence exists on which surgical approaches and reconstruction techniques are optimal. Here, using the largest case series to date, we evaluated the recurrence rate of proximal humerus GCTBs and the functional outcomes of different resection and reconstruction options in this multicenter study. Medial elbow injuries in the throwing athlete: youth to professional
There has been an epidemic increase in injuries to the elbow in our youth sports over the past 15 years.6 Initially, career ending elbow injuries occurred almost exclusively in the professional population. The landmark procedure developed by Dr. Frank Jobe, colloquially termed “Tommy John Surgery” after the initial player in whom he performed the surgery, allowed roughly 2/3 of professional athletes to return to play at or near the same level. As the surgical procedure became more widespread, modifications in the technique by Jobe and many other contributors raised th e return to play level to 85-94% of players regaini...

Letter to the Editor regarding Vijittrakarnrung et  al: “Periarticular injection in addition to interscalene nerve block can decrease opioid consumption and pain following total shoulder arthroplasty: a comparison cohort study”
In a retrospective cohort study of 130 patients undergoing primary elective total shoulder arthroplasty, Vijittrakarnrung et  al5 showed that compared to interscalene nerve block (INB) alone, combined INB with periarticular injection (PAI) significantly decreased total opioid consumption and pain scores within the first 24 hours postoperatively. Their findings have potential implications, but we had several questions abo ut their methodology and results. (Source: Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery)

Periprosthetic shoulder infection management: one-stage should be the way: a systematic review and meta-analysis
There is still no consensus among surgeons on whether to perform a 1- or 2-stage surgical revision in infected shoulder arthroplasties. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to rigorously synthesize published studies evaluating the clinical outcomes, recurrence of infection, and other clinical complications in order to discuss which is the best strategy for treating periprosthetic joint infection after shoulder arthroplasty.
