Reversing Chronic Pseudoparesis Secondary to Massive, Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tear: Superior Capsular Reconstruction vs Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty
Recent studies have defined pseudoparesis as limited active forward elevation (AFE) between 45 and 90 ° and maintained passive range of motion in the setting of a massive rotator cuff tear (RCT). While pseudoparesis can be reliably reversed with reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) or superior capsular reconstruction (SCR), the optimal treatment for this indication remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of RSA to SCR in patients with pseudoparesis secondary to massive, irreparable rotator cuff tear (miRCT). Non-Cefazolin Antibiotic Prophylaxis is Associated with Higher Rates of Elbow Periprosthetic Joint Infection
Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a common source of failure following elbow arthroplasty. Perioperative prophylactic antibiotics are considered standard of care. However, there are no data regarding the comparative efficacy of various antibiotics in the prevention of PJI for elbow arthroplasty. Previous studies in shoulder, hip, and knee arthroplasty have demonstrated higher rates of PJI with administration of non-cefazolin antibiotics. The elbow has higher rates of PJI than other joints. A Scoping Review and Best Evidence Synthesis for Treatment of Partial-Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears
Rotator cuff disorders include a broad spectrum of pathological conditions including partial-thickness and full-thickness tears. Studies have shown partial-thickness rotator cuff tear (PTRCT) prevalence to be twice that of full-thickness tears. In the working population, PTRCTs are one of the most common causes of shoulder pain and often result in occupational disability due to pain, stiffness, and loss of shoulder function. Treatment of PTRCTs remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to consolidate the existing high-quality evidence on best management approaches in treating PTRCTs using both nonoperative and o...

Overhead athletes have comparable intraoperative injury patterns and clinical outcomes to non-overhead athletes following surgical stabilization for first-time anterior shoulder instability at average 6-year follow-up
Anterior shoulder instability is a common problem affecting young, athletic populations that results in potential career-altering functional limitations. However, little is known regarding the differences in clinical outcomes after operative management of overhead vs. non-overhead athletes presenting with first-time anterior shoulder instability. We hypothesized that overhead athletes would have milder clinical presentations, similar surgical characteristics, and diminished postoperative outcomes when compared with non-overhead athletes after surgical stabilization following first-time anterior shoulder instability episode...

Influence of Backside Seating Parameters and Augmented Baseplate Components in Virtual Planning for Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty
The primary goal of this investigation was to examine the influence of a backside seating percentage variable on volume of reamed bone and contact area in virtual planning for glenoid baseplate placement for reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). The secondary goal was to assess how the option of augmented glenoid baseplate components affected reamed volume and cortical contact area of virtually positioned baseplates. Patients 75  years or older with primary glenohumeral arthritis and an intact rotator cuff show similar clinical improvement after reverse or anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty
The optimal management of primary glenohumeral arthritis (GHOA) in the elderly is an ongoing topic of debate. The purpose of this study was to compare functional outcomes and complications in patients aged 75  years or older treated with anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) or reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) for primary GHOA with an intact rotator cuff.
