High Frequency of Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis in Patients With Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome
J Rheumatol. 2024 Apr 15:jrheum.2024-0081. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2024-0081. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is known to be associated with metabolic syndrome and with obesity in particular. The prevalence of DISH increases with age, with an average of 10% in those aged 70 years and older.PMID:38621799 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2024-0081 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

ASDAS-CRP and ASDAS-ESR cut-offs for disease activity states in axial spondyloarthritis - Are they interchangeable?
CONCLUSION: We estimated the optimal ASDAS-ESR values corresponding to the established ASDAS-CRP cut-off values. However, applying the estimated cut-offs did not increase the level of agreement between ASDAS-ESR and ASDAS-CRP disease activity states to a relevant degree. Our findings did not provide evidence to reject the established cut-off values for ASDAS-ESR.PMID:38621792 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1217 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Patient-Initiated Follow-Up
J Rheumatol. 2024 Apr 15:jrheum.2024-0302. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2024-0302. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the contemporary healthcare climate, we are acutely aware that our resources are finite. This is particularly pertinent in government-funded healthcare settings, where clinical teams often face the challenge of meeting increasing patient demand with static or dwindling capacity.1-4.PMID:38621794 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2024-0302 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Fibromyalgia and the Difficult Synthesis
J Rheumatol. 2024 Apr 15:jrheum.2024-0321. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2024-0321. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe pathophysiological uncertainties in fibromyalgia (FM) mean that its diagnosis, to this day, remains a strictly clinical exercise. The physician's evaluation of symptoms is therefore of fundamental importance both for the correct diagnostic framing of the patient and also for guiding a personalized therapeutic approach.1.PMID:38621795 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2024-0321 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Knowledge of and stated adherence to the 2020 ACR Guideline for Gout Management: Results of a survey of US rheumatologists
CONCLUSION: The self-reported practice of the surveyed US rheumatologists was generally concordant with the 2020 ACR Guideline for the Management of Gout. However, there were gaps in guideline knowledge and stated adherence among rheumatologists, mainly concerning the dosing of treatment regimens.PMID:38621796 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0981 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

When Should I Get My Next COVID Vaccine? Data from the SUrveillance of responses to COVID-19 vaCcines in systEmic immunE mediated inflammatory Diseases (SUCCEED)study
CONCLUSION: Ours is the first pan-Canadian IMID assessment of how vaccine history and other factors affect serologic COVID-19 vaccine responses. These findings may help individuals personalize vaccination decisions, including consideration of additional vaccination when >6 months has elapsed since last COVID vaccination/infection.PMID:38621797 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1214 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Feasibility of physiotherapist-led rheumatology triage: A randomized study
CONCLUSION: Physiotherapist-led triage was feasible, appeared as reliable as rheumatologist triage of referrals for joint pain, and lead to significantly fewer patients requiring in-clinic visits.PMID:38621798 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1071 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Increased interferon signalling in vaginal tissue of patients with primary Sj ögren's syndrome
CONCLUSION: Upregulation of IFN signalling in vaginal tissue of women with pSS, along with its association with tissue pathology, suggests that IFNs contribute to inflammation of the vaginal wall and potentially also to clinical symptomatology i.e. vaginal dryness.PMID:38561184 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1068 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

The Duty to Accommodate
J Rheumatol. 2024 Apr 1:jrheum.2024-0257. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2024-0257. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs the study by Jazayeri et al in this issue of The Journal of Rheumatology points out, the prevalence of unemployment in people with systemic sclerosis (SSc) is estimated at 40.5%, and SSc is associated with "presenteeism (ie, working while unwell), lack of participation in employment, and ultimately, absenteeism."1 This is of course true of patients with the many other musculoskeletal diseases that we as rheumatologists treat.PMID:38561186 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2024-0257 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Hospitalization and Mortality due to Infection among United States Children and Adolescents with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
CONCLUSION: Hospitalizations with codes for for infection comprised a small proportion of cSLE admissions but accounted for the majority of mortality. The proportion of hospitalizations for infection increased over time. Lupus nephritis and ESRD were risk factors for poor outcomes.PMID:38561187 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1219 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Phase Specific Health Care Costs Associated with Giant Cell Arteritis in Ontario, Canada
CONCLUSION: A diagnosis of GCA was associated with increased health care costs during all three phases of care. Given the substantial economic burden, strategies to reduce the healthcare utilization and costs associated with GCA are warranted.PMID:38561188 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1245 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)

Patients With Psoriatic Arthritis-Related Enthesitis and Persistence on Tofacitinib Under Real-World Conditions
CONCLUSION: In this real-world study, TOF showed a reasonably good retention rate in a PsA population that was mostly refractory to biologic and oral targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. There were no new causes for concern regarding safety. Patients with refractory PsA and enthesitis might be a specific target population for this drug.PMID:38561189 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2024-0016 (Source: Journal of Rheumatology)
