Increased pre-dialysis extracellular to intracellular water ratio is associated with sarcopenia in hemodialysis patients
To explore the association between fluid overload (FO) evaluated by a new FO indicator, the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) derived whole-body extracellular to intracellular water ratio (ECW/ICW) and sarcopenia in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. Methods: A multicenter, cross-sectional study included 3320 adult MHD patients was conducted in XX from June 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020. The diagnosis of sarcopenia was based on the Asian Working Group ’s definition of sarcopenia (AWGS). (Source: Journal of Renal Nutrition)

A low prognostic nutritional index is a risk factor for high peritoneal transport status in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis
A high peritoneal transport status is a risk factor for mortality and causes technical failure in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). High peritoneal transport status is associated with malnutrition and inflammation in patients with PD. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is a marker determined by the serum albumin level and lymphocyte count in the peripheral blood. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between PNI and high peritoneal transport status in patients with PD. (Source: Journal of Renal Nutrition)

Differences in Malnutrition Inflammation Score of Hemodialysis Patients Associated With Hemodialysis Factors. A Spanish Multicenter Epidemiologic Study
The aims of this study are to analyze the prevalence of malnutrition in hemodialysis (HD) patients in Spain, and to assess the association of malnutrition in these patients with sociodemographic characteristics, comorbidity, and parameters related to HD. (Source: Journal of Renal Nutrition)

State-of-the-Art Medical Therapy versus Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass Alone for Treatment of Early Diabetic Kidney Disease
Type 2 diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the most common global cause of kidney disease and failure. Obesity is a major risk factor for DKD due to its causal relationship with diabetes, hypertension, and other factors promoting kidney disease. We therefore investigated whether metabolic surgery such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is more effective than state-of-the-art medical therapy (i.e. renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors, and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists) in treating DKD.
