S-layer is a key element in metabolic response and entry into the stationary phase in Bacillus cereus AH187
In this study, we used high-throughput proteomics to investigate how S-layer synthesis affects the allocation of cellular resources in the emetic B. cereus strain AH187. Our results demonstrate that the synthesis of the S-layer plays a crucial role in the pathogen's ability to thrive under stationary growth phase conditions by modulating the stress response, thereby promoting its lifestyle as an emetic pathogen. We conclude that the synthesis of the S-layer is a critical adaptation for emetic B. cereus to successfully colonize specific niches.PMID:37730087 | DOI:10.1016/j.jprot.2023.105007 (Source: Journal of Proteomics)

Interactive effects of Pseudomonas entomophila strain 23S and Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis on proteome and anti-Cmm compound production
In this study, the interactions between pure cultures of P. entomophila 23S and Cmm were investigated. First, the population dynamics of each bacterium during the interaction was determined using the selective media. Second, the amount of anti-Cmm compound produced by P. entomophila 23S in the presence of Cmm was quantified using HPLC. Lastly, a label-free shotgun proteomics study of P. entomophila 23S, Cmm, and a co-culture was conducted to understand the effects of the interaction of each bacterium at the proteomic level. Compared with the pure culture grown, the total number of proteins decreased in the interaction for ...

In-depth characterization of the sarcoplasmic muscle proteome changes in lambs fed with hazelnut skin by-products: Relationships with meat color
This study investigated the effect of agro-industrial hazelnut skin by-products supplementation on lamb meat color variation and the changes in the sarcoplasmic muscle proteome during post-mortem storage (0, 4 and 7 days). Gel-based proteomics and bioinformatics approaches were applied to better understand the potential role of feeding strategies in modulating the mechanisms underpinning meat discoloration and post-mortem changes during storage. Therefore, twenty-two Valle del Belice male lambs were randomly assigned to two dietary treatments: control (C), lambs fed with maize-barley diet, and hazelnut skin (H), lambs fed ...

Proteomic analysis of murine kidney proximal tubule sub-segment derived cell lines reveals preferences in mitochondrial pathway activity
This study analyzed three immortalized murine renal cell lines (PT S1, S2, and S3 segments) for protein content and compared them to a murine fibroblast cell line. All three proximal tubule cell lines generate ATP predominantly by oxidative phosphorylation while the fibroblast cell line is glycolytic. The proteomic data demonstrates that the most significant difference in proteomic signatures between the cell lines are proteins known to be localized in the nucleus followed by mitochondrial proteins. Mitochondrial metabolic substrate utilization assays were performed using the proximal tubule cell lines to determine substra...

Proteomic profiling analysis of human endometrium in women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion
This study aimed to reveal the pathogenesis of URSA by analyzing the differential protein expression profiles in the decidual tissue of patients with recurrent abortion compared to those with normal pregnancy. Morphological analysis revealed abnormal decidualization of endometrial tissue in patients with URSA. Quantitative proteomics analysis showed that a total of 146 differentially expressed proteins were identified between the two groups, among which 95 proteins were downregulated and 51 proteins were upregulated. Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways revealed that the prot...
