The Impact of Postoperative Infection on Revision Procedures in Breast Reconstruction: A Marketscan Database Analysis
Aesthetic complications, such as capsular contracture and soft tissue contour defects, hinder the desired outcomes of breast reconstruction. As subclinical infection is a prevailing theory behind capsular contracture, we investigated how postoperative infections impact these issues and revision procedures. Controversies in Facial Reanimation: An International Survey
With limited data to guide recommendations in facial reanimation, many points of controversy are left to individual surgeon preference. The purpose of this study was to survey surgeons treating facial paralysis on areas of controversial treatment decisions regarding nerve transfers and gracilis free muscle transfer. Surveys were sent through the Sir Charles Bell Society, an international, multispecialty association, yielding 35 results from 12 countries. The majority of survey participants practice in an academic setting, have been in practice for greater than 10 years, and perform greater than 10 facial nerve cases per ye...

Anthropometric indices fail to predict complications after mastectomy for gynecomastia in adolescents
Gynecomastia is the abnormal enlargement of male glandular breast tissue. It is common during puberty and typically resolves spontaneously. However, approximately 10% of patients experience persistent and often permanent breast enlargement. Gynecomastia can have negative psychological effects on adolescents and may predispose them to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and reduced quality of life.1,2 Although routine management involves watchful waiting, there is evidence suggesting that surgical intervention before age 18 may lead to better psychosocial outcomes. Patient factors associated with cancer worry post-breast reconstruction: a cross-sectional study
The BREAST-Q Breast Cancer module is a patient reported outcome measure for women with a breast cancer diagnosis. Our research team developed and validated a novel BREAST-Q scale for this module that measures quality of life outcomes specific to cancer worry. The aim of this study was to investigate patient breast reconstruction factors that are associated with worse scores on the new BREAST-Q Cancer Worry scale. Quantifying Female Upper Lip Lengthening with Age by Direct Surface Measurement: A Guide for the Lip Lifting Procedure
Upper lip lifting is a very popular procedure but there is no objective guidelines on how much skin has to be removed to obtain an optimal result. We have measured and compared the philtral height in two groups of young and old female Lebanese subjects. We have found a mean philtral height of 14.3 ±1.9mm in the young group and 19.8±2.4mm In the old group, with a mean philtral lengthening of 5.5±2.9mm. We suggest using these results to plan the amount of skin that has to be removed during a lip lift procedure. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)
