Prediction model for haematoma after tissue expander placement: A retrospective cohort study of 7080 cases over 20 years
Haematoma is an early complication of tissue expander placement and can lead to infection, capsule contracture and various complications, hindering successful reconstruction. However, no scientific models can accurately predict the risk of haematoma following tissue expansion. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate a prediction model for haematoma following tissue expander placement. The medical records of patients who underwent expander placement between 2001 and 2021 were obtained from the clinical database of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Xijing Hospital. Flying high? —Exploring the effect of red bull on blood pressure after microsurgical breast reconstruction in a randomized controlled trial
A sufficiently high blood pressure (BP) is essential for flap perfusion after microsurgical breast reconstruction. However, postoperative hypotension is common after these procedures. Perioperative volume overload may increase flap-related complications, and postoperative vasopressor use may be limited depending on institutions. Red Bull has been shown to increase BP in several studies. We aimed to evaluate the effect of Red Bull on perfusion-related variables after microsurgical breast reconstruction. Translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of the Standardized Cosmesis and Health Nasal Outcomes Survey in Japanese (J-SCHNOS)
Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery techniques. The evaluation of both functional and cosmetic aspects of rhinoplasty is essential for planning and assessing surgery results. The Standardized Cosmesis and Health Nasal Outcomes Survey (SCHNOS) is a validated questionnaire used to assess both functional and aesthetic symptoms in patients with nasal problems, and it has been translated into several languages. The purpose of this study was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the SCHNOS in Japanese among patients undergoing rhinoplasty. Isolated and combined breast augmentation in transgender patients: Multi-institutional insights into early outcomes and risk factors
The increasing demand for gender-affirming surgery (GAS) in transgender and gender-diverse healthcare highlights the importance of breast augmentation surgery (BAS) for transfeminine patients. Despite its significance, there is a lack of research on postoperative outcomes of BAS. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)

Abdominal donor-site complications following autologous breast reconstruction: A multi-institutional multisurgeon study
The deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) free flap is the gold standard procedure for autologous breast reconstruction. Although breast-related complications have been well described, donor-site complications and contributing patient risk factors are poorly understood. Utilization of patient-reported outcome measures in plastic surgery clinical trials: A systematic review
Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) have evolved to validated questionnaires assessing health-related quality of life. This systematic review evaluates the utilization of PROs in United States plastic and reconstructive surgery (PRS) clinical trials (CTs). Applying GPT-4 to the Plastic Surgery Inservice Training Examination
We have thoroughly reviewed the insightful study "Applying GPT-4 to the Plastic Surgery Inservice Training Examination" by Rohun Gupta and colleagues with keen interest1. The paper presents a compelling analysis of the application of Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 (GPT-4) in the context of the Plastic Surgery Inservice Training Examination (PSITE), highlighting its enhanced accuracy and utility in educational settings. While we commend the authors for their pioneering work in integrating artificial intelligence into plastic surgery education, we would like to offer some perspectives for consideration. Considerations and Recommendations for Hand Surgeons in Light of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Price Transparency Rulings
In 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) ruled that hospitals publish pricing data for at least 300 shoppable services, including 70 CMS-specified services. This ruling intended to improve patient choice, access to pricing information, and curb costs for healthcare consumers by encouraging free market behavior in an increasingly expensive healthcare economy. However, due to poor enforcement, data reporting, and compliance, the ruling neither improved existing pricing disparities nor patient choice. Surgical Techniques and Outcomes of Thyroid Chondroplasty in Transfeminine Individuals: A Systematic Review
This study evaluated open versus endoscopic techniques to thyroid chondroplasty and associated outcomes and complications. A systematic review (SR) according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta ‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for articles pertaining to TC was conducted. Data from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) was reviewed for individuals who underwent “cervical tracheoplasty” for gender dysphoria. Quality of life and subjective donor-site morbidity in patients after a free fibula flap
We evaluated the subjective donor-site morbidity and quality of life in patients with a free fibula flap (FFF) reconstruction in terms of self-reported symptoms, function and quality of life, and we compared inclusion vs. exclusion of the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) muscle in the graft, primary wound closure vs. skin graft and the occurrence vs. absence of donor-site complications.
