Is there an Ideal Timing for Autologous Fat Grafting in Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction? Commentary on A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
This meta-analysis was aimed to investigate patients ’ satisfaction with the timing of autologous fat grafting (AFG) in implant-based breast reconstruction and assess outcomes based on verified BREAST-Q scores to establish a set of best practices for the timing of fat grafting in breast reconstruction surgery. AFG can be done during the second stage of surgery along with expander-to-implant exchange, or during a separate third-stage procedure.1 Though second-stage AFG allows the patient to undergo fewer surgeries, drawbacks of this technique include a more complex recovery, as well as a potential need for additional proc...

Staged breast reconstruction utilizing primary nipple repositioning surgery prior to nipple-sparing mastectomy
Staged nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) following mastopexy or breast reduction has become increasingly utilized in patients with large or ptotic breasts. The safety and efficacy of this approach has been demonstrated in recent years. However, the optimal timing between stages has not been established. The authors provide their experience with this staged approach with emphasis on timing between stages. An institutional review board approved this retrospective study. Data of all patients at a single institution who underwent staged NSM following mastopexy or reduction mammaplasty for therapeutic or prophylactic oncologic su...
