People with low back pain want clear, consistent and personalised information on prognosis, treatment options and self-management strategies: a systematic review
ConclusionAvailable data suggest that the information needs of people with low back pain are centred around their desire for a diagnosis, potentially contributing to expectations for and overuse of imaging. People with low back pain expressed a strong desire for clear, consistent and personalised information on prognosis, treatment options and self-management strategies, related to healthcare and occupational issues. To correct unhelpful beliefs and optimise delivery of evidence-based therapy, patient and healthcare professional education (potentially by an integrated public health approach) may be warranted. Incorporating hip abductor strengthening exercises into a rehabilitation program did not improve outcomes in people following total knee arthroplasty: a randomised trial
ConclusionSimilar improvements in muscle strength, functional performance and patient-reported outcomes were observed whether specific hip-strengthening exercises were incorporated or general functional exercises were continued instead as part of a postoperative rehabilitation program for participants after total knee arthroplasty.RegistrationANZCTR 12615000863538. Family-assisted therapy empowered families of older people transitioning from hospital to the community: a qualitative study

Self-dosed and pre-determined progressive heavy-slow resistance training have similar effects in people with plantar fasciopathy: a randomised trial
ConclusionSelf-dosed and pre-determined heavy-slow resistance exercise programs are associated with similar effects on plantar fasciopathy pain and other outcomes over 12 weeks. Advising people with plantar fasciopathy to self-dose their slow-heavy resistance training regimen did not substantially increase the achieved dose compared with a pre-determined regimen. These regimens are not sufficient to achieve acceptable symptom state in the majority of people with plantar fasciopathy.RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT03304353. (Source: Journal of Physiotherapy)
