Ethical considerations in undertaking research with children
Bronfenbrener's bioecological model of human development, states children and young people (CYP) are influenced by their interaction with the environment, biological characteristics, context, and time (Bronfenbrenner, 2005). Time refers to four interacting systems being the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and macrosystem (Bronfenbrenner, 2005). The microsystem includes relationships between two or more settings with family having the greatest impact on CYP's psychosocial and emotional development (Bronfenbrenner, 2005). Quality improvement developments following pediatric resuscitation and veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support due to a massive intentional antidepressant overdose
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR) is the act of placing a patient on bypass at the bedside while simultaneously carrying out life-sustaining interventions such as chest compressions or epinephrine administration. This involves a team of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) trained staff, and other health professionals who must focus on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), cannulation, and initiating ECMO flow at the same time. Challenges of a drug shortage
Drug shortages tend to occur unexpectedly, without warning, and have worsened recently (American Hospital Association communication, July 7, 2023). Families expect that they will be able to get their child's medications as scheduled when they need a refill. Learning that a drug their child depends on is not available leaves parents frustrated, angry and scared. Some families exhaust known resources before calling their child's provider, others reach out immediately panicking, demanding answers, and help. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Nursing)

Sociodemographic profile associated with congenital heart disease among infants < 1  year old
Congenital heart disease affects thousands of newborns each year in the United States. Previous United States-based research has explored how sociodemographic factors may impact health outcomes in infants with congenital heart disease; however, their impact on the incidence of congenital heart disease is unclear. We explored the sociodemographic profile related to congenital heart disease to help address health disparities that arise from race and social determinants of health. Defining the sociodemographic factors associated with congenital heart disease will encourage implementation of potential preventative measures. (S...

Nurses' behavioural intentions towards intravenous fluid administration for pediatric patients: Application of the theory of planned behaviour
For pediatric patients, the demand for quality and safe Intravenous Fluid (IVF) therapy is huge. This is because, compared to adults, children have a lower tolerance for IVF therapy errors and present devastating physiological responses to errors. Nurses play a vital role in IVF administration; therefore, adequate knowledge, positive attitudes, positive perceived behavioural control, and good behavioural intentions are required to achieve effective and successful therapy, patient safety and prevention of complications, and overall positive patient outcomes.
