Bronfenbrener's bioecological model of human development, states children and young people (CYP) are influenced by their interaction with the environment, biological characteristics, context, and time (Bronfenbrenner, 2005). Time refers to four interacting systems being the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and macrosystem (Bronfenbrenner, 2005). Challenges of a drug shortage
Drug shortages tend to occur unexpectedly, without warning, and have worsened recently (American Hospital Association communication, July 7, 2023). Families expect that they will be able to get their child's medications as scheduled when they need a refill. Learning that a drug their child depends on is not available leaves parents frustrated, angry and scared.
