Helping the World Achieve Sustainable Development Goals: The Role of PNPs and Pediatric-Focused Providers
In 2015 the United Nations created the Agenda for Sustainable Development and a list of 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) for 2030. This year is the halfway mark toward meeting the goals, and the results reported by the World Health Organization in 2023 are not as positive as hoped, as progress has stagnated. The third SDG primarily focuses on the health and well-being of all ages to prevent unavoidable deaths in children aged (Source: Journal of Pediatric Health Care)

Mothers of Children With Special Health Care Needs: Exploring Caregiver Burden, Quality of Life, and Resiliency
When women enter motherhood, most never expect their child to have a chronic health care condition. Approximately 19% of all children are categorized as having a special health care need in the United States (Child Health Data, 2021). Children with special health care needs (CSHCN) are those with physical, developmental, or psychiatric conditions lasting longer than 1 year and require health care services at a greater rate (Child Health Data, 2021; McPherson et al., 1998; Simon et al., 2014). Mothers are often the primary caregivers for children in households, and there is no difference in households with CSHCN. (Source: J...

Overlapping Presentation of Group A Streptococcus and Upper Respiratory Infection  in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report
Group A streptococcus (GAS), a gram-positive bacteria, is the most common bacterial etiology in acute pharyngitis, accounting for 20% to 30% of all pediatric cases (Ashurst& Edgerley-Gibb, 2022). GAS pharyngitis is a risk of subsequent complications, including acute glomerulonephritis, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, and acute rheumatic fever, if not recognized and treated promptly (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2023). Worldwide, GAS pharyngitis is estimated at nearly 288 million episodes annually in children aged 5 –14 years (Miller et al., 2022). (Source: Journal of Pediatric Health Care)

Continuing Medical Education Pediatric Hypertension: An Update on the American Academy of Pediatrics Clinical Practice Guidelines
Although it is well known that pediatric hypertension (HTN) may lead to early-onset cardiovascular disease, it is often underdiagnosed and treated (Writing Group Members et al., 2016). The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which tracks information on the health and nutritional status of adults and children, showed elevated blood pressure (BP) and HTN increased from 1988 to 2008 (Rosner et al., 2013). Previous United States (U.S.) guidelines were released in 2004, and updated clinical practice guidelines were issued in 2017 by the American Academy of Pediatrics (Flynn et al., 2017).
