A Case Series on the Use of Dupilumab for Treatment of Refractory Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders
The incidence and prevalence of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), eosinophilic gastritis (EoG), eosinophilic enteritis (EoN), and eosinophilic colitis (EoC) are increasing (1). These conditions will inevitably become more widely recognized and better understood. There is currently no Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved treatment for EoE, but there are standard-of-care treatments that are well established and widely used. In contrast, there is a paucity of data regarding standard-of-care treatment for non-EoE eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGID). We identified 3 patients that all achieved clinical and hist...

Anxiety and Depression in Pediatric Patients with Celiac Disease: A Large Cross-Sectional Study
This study utilized the Revised Children’s Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) to investigate anxiety and depression symptom rates. Participants were children ages 8 to 17 years (M = 11.7, SD = 2.7; N = 175) with biopsy-proven CD (Median = 1.1 years post-diagnosis, IQR = 0–4) categorized into groups based on the child’s age, caregiver or child respondent, presence or absence of comorbidities, and gluten-free diet duration. Self-reported RCADS scores showed 39% of children having clinically significant concerns for anxiety or depression (P (Source: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)

Incidence and Prevalence of Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Continues to Increase in the South of England
Objective: The incidence of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been increasing over 25 years; however, contemporary trends are not established and the impact of COVID-19 on case rates is unclear. Methods: Data from Southampton Children’s hospital prospective IBD database were retrieved for 2002–2021. Incidence rates were calculated based on referral area populations and temporal trends analysed. Disease prevalence for those aged (Source: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)

Hospitalization With Clostridioides difficile in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease: a Population-Based Study
Objectives: Several studies have demonstrated higher rates of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) in adults with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We conducted a population-based study comparing the risk of hospitalization with CDI in children with and without IBD. Methods: Using health administrative data and validated algorithms, we identified all children ( (Source: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)

Associations of Healthy Infant Feeding Practices and Early Childhood Adiposity in the Rise & SHINE Cohort
We examined associations of individual and cumulative infant feeding practices through 12 months of age with body mass index (BMI) z-score at 2 years. Exclusive breastmilk and avoidance of bottle use in bed were associated with lower BMI z−score (β −0.29 units; 95% CI, −0.56, −0.02 units and β −0.32 units; 95% CI, −0.57, −0.07, respectively), when accounting for maternal pre−pregnancy BMI, household income, infant sex, race, and ethnicity. Adherence to 4–−5 practices, compared to ≤ 2 practices, was associated with lower BMI z−score (β −0.84 units; 95% CI, −1.35, −0.34 units). Adherence to h...

Vomiting and Gastric Motility in Early Brain Damaged Children With Congenital Zika Syndrome
Conclusions: In dysphagic children with CZS, vomiting, volume intolerance, and prolonged feeding time were frequent and possibly associated with impaired antral contraction and delayed gastric emptying, especially in cases of severe dysphagia and tube feeding. Gastrointestinal Features of 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Include Chronic Motility Problems From Childhood to Adulthood
Conclusions: Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are a common cause of ill health in children and adults with 22q11.2DS. Providers should consider screening for the deletion in patients presenting with FGIDs and associated comorbidities such as neuropsychiatric illness, congenital heart disease, and palatal abnormalities. Gastrointestinal Symptoms Profile in Pediatric Patients With Gastroparesis Compared to Healthy Controls
Objectives: The primary objective was to compare the patient-reported gastrointestinal symptoms profiles of pediatric patients with gastroparesis to matched healthy controls using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ (PedsQL™) Gastrointestinal Symptoms Scales. The secondary objectives were to compare pediatric patients with gastroparesis to pediatric patients with gastroparesis-like symptoms and normal gastric emptying and to compare pediatric patients with gastroparesis-like symptoms and normal gastric emptying to matched healthy controls. Management of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Esophageal Atresia Patients: A Cross-Sectional Survey amongst International Clinicians
Conclusions: Respondents’ opinions on the optimal duration for routine acid suppressive therapy and indications for fundoplication in EA patients varied widely. To improve evidence-based care for EA patients, future prospective multicenter outcome studies should compare different diagnostic and treatment regimes for GERD in patients with EA. Complications of therapy should be one of the main outcome measures in such trials. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)

Mycophenolate Mofetil Use Is Associated With Reduced Incidence of Food Allergy in Liver Transplanted Children
Conclusions: Use of MMF 1 and 2 years after transplantation was associated with less food allergy and sensitization against food allergens. The effect of MMF was not due to reduced trough levels of tacrolimus. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)- Derived Phase Angle in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review
In conclusion, partial and limited evidence suggests that changes in PhA over the first 2 decades of life reflect modification in body composition and fat-free mass composition. Further studies are needed for confirming PhA as a relevant marker of nutritional status in youths. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)
