Mobile Application Measurement of Menstrual Cycle Characteristics and Their Association with Dysmenorrhea and Activity Limitation in Early Adolescents
Real-time tracking of menstrual bleeding is a barrier to research due to limitations with traditional data collection tools. This prospective cohort study utilized a mobile application (TDot app) in young adolescents aged 10-14 years to assess the relationship between heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), dysmenorrhea, and activity limitation. Qualitative Assessment of Vulvovaginal Health Information on Social Media
Adolescents and young adults use vulvovaginal hygiene practices, products, and treatments. Access to social media platforms allows health information, including gynecologic care, to be easily disseminated and more accessible. Our objective was to characterize and assess vulvovaginal health information available on a popular video-sharing social media platform. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

An Unusual Presentation of Syphilis in the Context of Child Sexual Abuse
A 13-year-old presented with a genital lesion, which helped in guiding a diagnosis of child sexual abuse (CSA). The patient disclosed unprotected penile-vaginal penetration by a 20-year-old male neighbor. On exam, her left labia minora had a single 2 centimeter hypopigmented fleshy non-tender mass and laboratory studies revealed positive Treponemal IgG IgM antibody (>8) and rapid plasma reagin (RPR) titer of 1:128, indicating syphilis infection. Given the resolution of the labial mass with treatment of syphilis, this lesion was most consistent with condyloma lata. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

The Potential Impact of Decreasing Access to Abortion on Pregnant Teenagers with Cancer in the United States
While trying to maintain a neutral stance, we highlight the niche population of pregnant teenagers affected by cancer and those that live under abortion restrictions in the United States. Increased awareness and more research is needed to analyze the full impact. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

A case report of familial Mayer-Rokitansky-K üster-Hauser syndrome as part of the phenotypic spectrum of the 2q37 deletion
We performed a genetic investigation into the case of an inherited Mayer-Rokitansky-K üster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome. Our patients were an adolescent and her mother, both with MRKH syndrome. The delivery of a biological offspring was achieved via a gestational carrier. Karyotype and exome sequencing were used to complete a three-generation genetic analysis of the family. Both the moth er and her daughter harbored a deletion of four Mb at the locus of 2q37, a syndrome rarely described in association with MRKH. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

Thoughts on Pediatric Gynecology and Vaginal Bleeding in the Prepubertal Child
When I was first starting to practice pediatric and adolescent gynecology (PAG), in the early 1980s, I was much more comfortable seeing adolescents than I was seeing pediatric patients. Adolescents have bodies that are close to adult size and configuration, and they are able to tell me about their concerns. Many aspects of adolescent gynecology felt similar to those of adult gynecology —except of course, all of the developmental, psychological, and social aspects of adolescents’ lives, that should not be underestimated, and which impact our care of adolescents.
